Am I the only one who wonders whether "multiple sources" means several people are confirming that they heard Bruce Garrioch saying that Benning was the leading candidate?
You aren't the only one. I'd certainly like to hear from someone more credible than Garrioch and a guy with 2,500 followers who appears only to periodically discuss the Habs.
Benning is obviously an educated guess, but I do wonder if it's anything more than that.

How much are teams blocking Buffalo from interviewing them??? In all honesty Buffalo can handle the draft just fine with the staff they currently have now.

The GM search is turning into a circus sideshow. At this point, I think most people are fed up with the lack of decision making by the Sabres leadership and they're coming off like they have no idea what they want or what they're supposed to be doing.
I wish DR would've just fired Ron Rolston so we could've avoided this nonsense.

I don't disagree that who they have could handle drafting the players, but for a new GM the draft is their first clean slate and first opportunity to put their footprint on the team. Buffalo's GM job is made more attractive because they could have two very high picks this year, I can't imagine a prospective GM would be too thrilled inheriting a team after they've drafted with those picks - nor can I imagine LaFontaine putting someone in that position.
How on Earth is this a circus sideshow? Holy **** people are impatient. LaFontaine has been on the job for 42 days. From all accounts, he has cast a pretty wide net for an expansive search. This is an immensely important decision for him and the Sabres as a whole. Buffalo finally made the decision to blow it up and completely rebuild - if the team is mismanaged or drafts poorly the next few seaons, the entire organization is going to be set back for years.
Darcy doesn't interview anyone else for the coaching job and people were (reasonably) upset... now LaFontaine is essentially doing the exact opposite and some of us are still complaining. Unbelievable.

What exactly is the rush here? Would anything be significantly different if they had hired a GM 2 weeks ago instead of 2 weeks from now? I would assert that there isn't.
PL's been here barely six weeks and people are already pitching fits because he hasn't hired someone already? You know it's not unusual for hiring decisions in the real world to take this long for high-level people? This board's amazing sometimes.

I'm fne with him taking his time in this. There isn't a rush to fill this job now.
He is evaluating all the talent that is out there.

Like what? I dont need a guy who speaks good, I need a guy who knows what type of hockey teams he wants and builds that team, builds an identity.
You are telling me you would like Feaster if he had the best youtube interviews?
No. But going through every single possibility, from one side of the continent to the other, interviewing candidates on a consistent basis is. And I feel like that's what he's doing. We don't even know, maybe he knows who he wants but the team in question has asked for some time. This is a crucial decision that could impact the organization for decades to come. You of all people, who constantly preaches patience when it comes to the rebuild is impatient that they haven't found their guy after a month and a half? C'mon!
Yea, my pessimistic side simply sees more inexperience at the top, and a process of hiring has turned into his own personal education.
Lafontaine has no idea who the right guy is.
What if they already know who they want, but the current team is making them wait till the new year/Olympics/after the season? Could be the case with some of the names that have been brought up. We're all assuming it's LaFontaine taking his time, what if the decision has already been made, but they're being forced to wait?

Humor me, is it possible that the 3rd guy interviewed WAS the right guy.
Is it also possibility that in the pursuit of looking under every stone, that the right guy was turned off by the whole process and passes on the job?
