News/Notes:
  • The Blue Jackets got shutout by the Tampa Bay Lightning Thursday night which ended a 4 game winning streak for the Jackets.
  • Boone Jenner could make his season debut for the Jackets against the Kings. Jenner had injured himself during an offseason workout that sidelined him throughout training camp. He finished last season with 18 goals and 16 assists for 34 points in 82 games.
  • Adrian Kempe had his best NHL game last game against the Montreal Canadiens capping off a 4 point night with a hat trick. Linemate Michael Cammalleri also a 4 point night registering 2 goals and 2 assists
  • Center Jeff Carter left the game early with a laceration above his ankle. Carter had a successful surgery, but no time table has been named for his return. Carter had 0 goals and 3 assists in 6 games in this season.
  • Kings sign veteran center Brooks Laich to a 1 year contract following the win against the Habs Wednesday night. According to several sources the Kings were intending of signing Brooks before the Jeff Carter injury. Brooks had been practicing with the team for several weeks after being released from his pro-tryout.

#SavetheCrew is about the MLS team Columbus Crew who just this week their owner announced his intentions of moving one of the first MLS teams to Austin, Texas. I'm an LA Galaxy fan, but it just would not feel right with having the Crew anywhere else but Columbus. So by chance if there are Columbus Blue Jackets fans who also happen to be Crew fans swinging by our GDT, just so you know you have my support.

Should be a good challenge for the Kings. This trip will give the younger guys some experience what it’s like to play some of the top teams on the road. Glad that we got the 11 points in the bank at the start of the season and would call this a successful trip if we could get another 6 points on it.
Hope that damn cannon doesn’t go off too many times tonight.

I thought Fantenberg was very very good last game, he deserves the promotion. Hopefully he works with Muzzin and Amart + Folin can be a solid 3rd pairing.

There's some concubines who've acted like the Kings haven't been tested this season. A big joke if I've ever heard one. Kings have played against good teams this season already, this is no different. Another one. Let's. Go.

Another good early season test for the Kings. Columbus is a physical team, and probably the best team the Kings have played thus far this season. To win the Kings will have to play a tight checking game and rely on Quick to make some big saves.
 
Also, let's be honest about the level of competition the Kings have faced thus far. The Kings have won five games against teams with combined records of 12-20-4.

While I recognize a team can only play the games on the schedule, Columbus is the biggest test of the season thus far. A win would be huge.

Would a win against Columbus do much to that collective record against? Not really. Plus, Columbus is only 3-2-2 in regulation. Not that much better than Philly, SJ, or Calgary. Even the Islanders are 2-3-2 in 60 minutes.

What are the bases to cover regardless of the result tonight? If the Kings win, it's a big win. In terms of perception at least. If they lose, it's some proof that Milbury was right, almost no matter how they lose. If they lose, they didn't have Carter, so there's a built-in excuse, which nobody wants to use. If they lose, is it an impressive win for Columbus? They're winning a home game, against a team that has played weak competition, and doesn't even have their #2C on top of that. What does it say about the Jackets if they win? What if they lose? Are they then a fraud?

Hence my tongue in cheek remark above. Kings only have to lose once on this road trip to anyone for all the critics to call them a fraud.

Our next 3 games are on the road verse Columbus, Toronto & Ottawa which have a combined record of 14-4-3.

Considering that, and the fact that one of our most important players is out of the lineup, I would be okay with 3 points in the next 3 games. 4 points would be excellent.
