Ducks Season Record vs Kings: 2-3-0
Although the final box score looks the same between the last two games, the games were not played similarly. The Ducks were owned in game 47, but in game 49, it was a much tighter game. With under 2 minutes left in the game, the score was Kings 2, Ducks 1. Anaheim pulled their netminder, but our pathetic play lead to two empty net goals. Recently turned 19-year old defenseman Drysdale notched his 3rd goal of the season for the Ducks.
The last game was a step in the correct direction as the game was competitive until the final minutes. Hopefully, this game the Ducks will come out victorious and even the series!
Tonight marks the second out of a four-game consecutive set with the Kings. (Tonight's game is on KDOC!)
Draft Position Watch
[TBODY]
[/TBODY]
Of the five teams on this list, the Ducks own the longest losing streak of 5. New Jersey broke their 10-game losing streak. Vancouver has several games on-hand that they probably will not be part of this bottom five grouping.
Remember, there is a lottery system in place. Just because you finish in the top-2 does not necessarily conclude you pick at the top-2 slots. Case in point, last year's draft both Detroit and Ottawa's own pick, picks 1 and 2 respectively, dropped to the 4th and 5th draft slots, respectively. #12 on the presumed list would own the 1st overall and the 4th overall pick moved up to the 2nd overall pick, who were the Kings.
Anaheim is already in this Draft position watch. We are here for a reason. There really is no need to beg for a loss when there is no guarantee the Ducks will remain in the same draft slot. Thanks!
Positivity Section: Sam Carrick
Carrick has been in the league for quite some time as he is a 29 year old center who has spent most of this season with the Ducks' AHL team, the San Diego Gulls. He has been with the Ducks for the past five seasons and been in the leadership role on the ice for the Ducks for the past four seasons, two years as an alternate captain and two years as its captain.
In a season mired in mediocrity due to injuries, lack of talent, and lack of will, Carrick's call-up has been very refreshing. Sam has cashed in 4 points (1g, 3a) in six games played with the Ducks. What is very intriguing is that in all six games played, he has never had a negative +/- rating! Currently, he stands at a +2 plus/minus rating. Carrick is one of four players with a positive (greater than o) +/- rating: D Welinski +4, LW Zegras +2, C Carrick +2, and LW Comtois +1. Only Comtois has played in more than 20 games, 48 games to be exact, which is impressive when the rest of the team is in the negative ratings. The other player without a negative rating of note is D Hakanpaa with 0 plus/minus rating in 42 games, which is more impressive considering he usually plays about a third of the game being a top-4 defenseman. (Unfortunately, we have traded him at the TDL for a younger LHD in Haydn Fleury.)
What Carrick brings is some spark to the game. Hopefully, he will be able to play the rest of the games for Anaheim so his talent can be on display for either Anaheim or another team looking for 3/4C. Anaheim has been a very soft team this year since missing its top two defenders in Hampus Lindholm and Josh Manson. The team got even softer when Hakanpaa was traded away. In Carrick's second NHL game this season, he did the following:
Sam has been in two fights plus. In only six games, he's earned 24 penalty in minutes (PIM): 2 fights, 2 roughings, and 1 game misconduct. Carrick is smaller than the Ducks' enforcer Nic Deslauriers, but it does not prevent Carrick from showing some bite! We can see the captaincy rising up from Carrick to stick up for his teammates, despite being smaller in stature.
After this season, Sam will be an unrestricted free agent (UFA). Cheers wherever you go, hopefully back with the Ducks organization!
...
Sam's brother, Trevor Carrick, is practicing with the Ducks today. Could they be playing together tonight? Also, for the life of me, I could not figure out who the curly-haired guy that was standing in front of the goalie. From the comments, they're saying Sonny Milano.
It's been a long minute since we've seen Sonny due to concussion issues. He was only able to play six games intermittently with the Ducks this year. His last game with the Ducks was on March 3, 2021. After acquiring Sonny at the TDL last season, he notched 5 points (2g, 3a) in nine games for the Ducks. Milano was one of the young players the Ducks were hoping to take a step forward this season to bring some offense. Unfortunately, concussions are a terrible things. Here's a picture of Sonny to confirm it is really him.
Let's go, Ducks!
