News/Notes from Jon Rosen Jan 17:
  • Expect Jake Muzzin (IR/upper-body) to be activated before tomorrow’s game against Pittsburgh. The defenseman was a member of the second power play unit and took regular defensive pair rotations during line rushes. The pairs were fluid, so it wasn’t really possible to get a good gauge on who he’ll skate with tomorrow. He took a few loops with both Alec Martinez and Paul LaDue this morning. Drew Doughty was most frequently paired with Derek Forbort. Should the Kings activate Muzzin tomorrow, they would not have to make a corresponding move because Jussi Jokinen was claimed off waivers by Columbus earlier today and is no longer on the roster.
  • Torrey Mitchell, Andy Andreoff and Paul Ladue did extra work after the morning skate, so assuming those are out tonight.
  • Kurtis MacDermid and Oscar Fantenberg were sent down to Ontario yesterday while Michael Amadio and Paul Ladue were recalled replacing them. Amadio has 34 points in 30 games this season for the Reign and was on a 17 game point streak in the AHL. Ladue has 17 points in 34 games this season, 1 point off his point total from last season and currently leads the Reign in points by a defenseman.
  • Power play units were Kempe-Kopitar-Brown-Toffoli-Doughty and Gaborik-Lewis-Pearson-Muzzin-Martinez.
  • Pittsburgh leads the NHL with a 26.5% power play rate. Los Angeles leads the NHL with an 87.1% penalty killing rate. Something’s got to give.
  • Goaltender Matt Murray has returned to Ontario to be with his family after his father, James Murray, passed away. Condolences to Matt, and warmth and support to the entire Murray family.
Casey DeSmith is backing up Tristan Jarry on the Penguins’ road trip. It wouldn’t be a stretch to see Jarry get all three starts; Pittsburgh concludes its trip at San Jose on Sunday.

4 game losing streak + team playing back-to-back + Crosby/Malkin = not looking forward to this

On one hand, they might lose since it's a b2b game for the pens; but on the other hand, it's an eastern team there might be a chance to win. But the Kings are currently in suck mode, they might as well cancel each other out.

I feel like we shouldn't win this one especially given recent trends but because of that we probably will do something crazy like win 5-1

Start time is actually 7PM.

They need to stop with all these weekday 7PM starts. Might work for Anaheim when their only fans are nearby and there aren't a lot of them going anyways, but its a real nightmare for those of us that work and aren't in close proximity to DTLA.

Whoops. Fixed it now. I agree with the start times.

It's the second half of a back to back on NBCSN. And they always do a 7pm start. That at least half the time we end up missing the start or have to switch to nhl network, that's if they aren't showing something.
But totally agree but as I've said it shows the lack of respect from the networks towards anything west of the Mississippi.

I have a weird feeling that Kuemper should start. Quick has looked bad. We need this win.

My guess is that it's because it's the Pens, and on NBCSN. The earlier the game starts, the more eyes on the east coast they might get because it's Crosby. If it's SJ/LA, they'll start the game at the normal time, maybe push it back 15 minutes if the early game goes late.

MacDermid if you board Reeves I won't complain about you for two whole weeks, I promise.

I can't say I love our center depth after Kopitar at the moment.
