We were the better team for sure. I thought it was very encouraging that we started playing with some "piss in our cornflakes" attitude after that fat dive from Parayko. We really controlled things after that. The big difference, to me, was that Demko was not up to game speed. His reads were very slow all night and it cost him on every single goal. Most times when you play how we did tonight, 4 goals do not end up in the back of the net. No matter. Some rust is expected; I'm sure he'll get himself righted with enough game action

This team needs some changes both on the ice and the bench. Tocchet needs to adjust his system because what we have ain't working. And Allvin needs to find some D help if he's serious about being competitive. Not a good look heading into this year with this D when we all knew what the result was going to be.
Trade that baby Pettersson before his no trade clause kicks in next season.

Another poor play by Boeser at the end of a game had a hand in giving the Blues the win. Happens, but he has to start thinking things better. Play with a bit of control and smarts. Overall fortunate to get a point given the amount of disorganization (especially in the first) the Canucks showed at times. Some very bad sequences.

Thought Demko was not good on the first goal but, given the time off, he was fine. Had to make some very good saves which resulted from the slip shod play around the Canuck net. Nice that he has got this game under his belt. But, somewhere, in the back of your mind, you wonder if we would have won with Lankanin. But the bottom line is that Lankanin needs to get less games so very good to have Demko back and he absolutely needed to be started.

Friendman play was not good. Had a tough time holding up the rush through the neutral zone and resorted to backing in on everything. Often ended up in his crease and there he had trouble handling any size. Brannstrom play might have dipped recently but he has been totally better than Friendman.

Give some credit to Juulsen for skating the puck up and out of his zone but his passing is often in the skates. Think he is providing some good minutes and at times actually pushed the play in the offensive zone.

De Brusk is proving very handy and is doing what he was brought in to do.

Pettersson continues his renaissance. However, still passing up excellent chances to shoot. Made a very nice play on the tieing goal and seems, at times, to be getting back to being the player we saw in the past. Him and Garland, of course, carrying much of the offense. Close call b/w Pettersson and Garland as to who is facilitating the most offense.

Have to ask yourselves where this team would be without Hughes. Carrying a huge load. I wonder if the mask was giving him trouble in the first period.

Fourth line continues to battle away. Raty and Sasson are probably not, at this point, bona vide NHL players. But if the 4th line can saw off with the a other teams lines, which they again did in this one, they are not really hurting you . Hopefully this experience can allow for their development. Team does need depth and has little choice but to maybe take a step back to gain this depth.

Few decent shifts by Hoglander but most of his play remains too individualistic and fragmented. Most everything he does leads to nothing

Just like good old Willie team would probably "want to be back on the road again".

Screw trading for a top 4 D, invest in cloning technology instead

Team ran a ~47% CF rate last year with Hughes on the bench. Down to 42% this year. Gap would be even worse if you score adjust given amount of time they spent leading last year compared to this year.

Hard to say that is anything other than the miserable defence the team assembled.

Wonder if EP will get stuck playing with the 2nd and 3rd pairings again once JT comes back.

I'm just a lowly Canucks fan and/or hater but I'd say it's a fireable offense not to rock this if healthy:

Suter - Miller - Boeser
DeBrusk - Pettersson - Sherwood
Joshua - Blueger - Garland
Hoglander - Raty - Heinen

Swap Hoglander for Sasson if you find some poor soul willing to trade for Hoglander at this point.

Wasting a Hart caliber Hughes at like a 50% off discount on his contract with the rest of this defense.

Imagine how much this team could control play if they can even put together a 2nd pairing that just breaks even at controlling play, and the monster this team could be if they had a 2nd pair that could tilt the ice a bit.

The pro scouting in this organization on the defensive end is garbage. Jake Walman's cap hit is the same as VD's and Forbort's combined. This is roughly the same management that traded for Gudbranson and signed Jack Johnson to an albatross contract. I don't trust Alvin to fix this wreck in season

Walman was a miss by so many. He came with a free 2nd rounder too

He was 100% not joking, tried to save it at the end.

He’s finally getting annoyed at the media

Yzerman apparently directly offered Walman to Grier and didn't consult anyone else. There definitely appear to be some misses this offseason (Roy, Walker, etc) but I wouldn't blame Allvin or any of the other GMs for missing on Walman.

Feels like the polar opposite of the first half of last year, everything broke our way and now we just can't seem to catch a break. Allvin has got to do something about the D, this is f***ing embarrassing.

He should take some blame - baffling decision scratching Brannstrom in exchange for Friedman.

The Desharnais experiment needs to end - I have yet to see the guy use his size and hit someone.

Also why TF is Hughes and Petey not starting in OT?

Can't win a game at home... and they increased ticket prices this year. It makes sense that there were so many empty seats

This was a combination of ending regulation on the ice and Pettersson being largely terrible on the draw.

I don't have a problem with Tocchet taking a punt on Suter winning the draw (I assume he'd change fairly quickly for Pettersson) but Hughes could have played the previous 60 minutes straight on fire and he'd like still be a better choice than the field.

Some not so fun facts from the Rink Wide guys:

1) Canucks have only had one 2-0 lead so far this year at home and that was game 1 against Calgary where they lost. They were actually up 3-0

2) Canucks have allowed the 2nd most goals at home in the NHL (only behind the Avs who don't have a goalie until recently)

Yikes. 4 wins in 14 games at home. On pace to win 12 games all year LOL

4 wins at home this year against Chicago, Columbus, Calgary, and Pittsburgh and we're almost halfway through December.

Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but I don't know how you can do that and not just be straight up embarassed as an organization when you're not tanking. I'm about to buy my brother & dad a Christmas gift, and if this were last year, no-brainer buy them some Canucks tickets.

This year? Doubtful, half the nights the team comes out lazy and only decides to put an effort up for half the game. Something on that front needs to change, and players need to have a little more respect for the fans.

I only watched half the game today because coaching, so I'll leave it to the others to break things down, but this home record has bugged me as much as the defense core behind Hughes/Hronek has this year.
The only team that has less home wins than us is Chicago and you can buy ticket for $27. Meanwhile here you pay $180 to watch a guaranteed loss.

Exactly how I’m feeling
It's the coaching..Tocchet has a system he wants these guys to play and it's not working.Tired of listeng to his excuses..Plus Alvin has shit the bed on the defense he brought in this year..As far as I'm concerned anyone not named Hughes can leave.

honestly see the logic in what brock did there.

he is way too slow - he would have been rubbed out in most situations if he tried to push down the boards there

tried to turn back to gain possession and control

yeah... debrusk got killed wide on that one. and he had enough time to get set to defend that so it was just really poor.

didn't deserve a point in this game. but hey, miller's back next one and you hope there's some more changes on the backend before that and maybe they can grab the next 2/3 of this homestand

Oh for sure. They can easily beat the Stanley cup champs (who we needed OT to beat without their 3 best players) when we got smashed by a .500 team tonight.
