They've played like shit all year at home, they play better on the road.
Something about home ice they get very distracted about.
The whole home/road split thing is 99% just luck and weird coincidence. Their home PDO is 0.992 and their away PDO is 1.04.

The fact that they're 0-4 in overtime games at home and 3-1 in overtime games on the road also skews the result. It's the kind of thing we'll look at and laugh at in 5 years.

Miller or not, something is just not right with this group
The scoring doesn’t concern me too much. The defense is the glaring problem which is affecting our offensive transitional play and just bleeding breakaways. I literally could count the amount of times our D were successfully able to make a 10 foot breakout pass on the tape. The Hronek injury amplifies how unacceptable our defense core is — needing to trot out a combo of Myers Friedman Soucy Desharnais Soucy is a huge failure on management. Like 2 of these guys max should be in our lineup, not 5..

Running Hughes into the ground for 30 minutes is a recipe for disaster, and not to mention he’s literally slamming his stick for the puck because he knows he has to do it all himself. He’s going to get injured even worse sooner or later.

Team looks defeated with the way our D is going right now.

I'm shocked VD didn't take his game to another level without that anchor Brannstrom at his hip. Actually played only 12 minutes, 2 minutes less than Friedman. Again I'm shocked.

Desharnais needs to be replaced, he is not good

Struggles positionally and has no ability to move the puck

Management saw “big” and decided to ignore all the others flaws

Let's hope that Allvin pulls the trigger on a trade for a top 4 d-man sooner than later...
it's hard because there's a chance that the team needs way more than that but they can't make that evaluation without seeing the team at or close to full health.

they don't have the assets to be adding much more than that and then you get into the jam of making short term band aid fixes that don't elevate you to contender status.

maybe they internally figure out the pp and offensive limitations, and another top four D who can move the puck really does unlock something for the team in the non-hughes minutes, but rn, i'm leaning pessimistic with the fwd group in terms of being one star level offensive player short

With Miller supposedly close to return and Demko finally back, I think it's as good as they'll get in terms of information about how the "healthy" team will perform, given Hronek's recovery timeline is actually tangible.

Just a completely inconsistent disjointed mess right now

Defense has 1 capable player in his role and 1 injury should not have been enough to create this gong show.....Cole Zadorov for the dreck that replaced was the mistake of the off season

Cant go up ice with control or transition quickly has neutered the forwards and having Heinen on the 4th line after that contract is brutal when Desharnais and whoever is smashing the puck into skates and boards

Boeser hasn't been the same since cracking his coconut....happy he's back but it's obvious he's gonna take till after xmas probably until he gets back. Miller should help tremendously. Joshua is the same. Nice to get a goal and some steps certainly but he's still aways from the player of last season

Great game from Hughes and Pettersson as much as i dumped on 40 last game it was nice to see him pushing teams back late into the game and moving his feet off puck....that's all i ask for...sometimes might not get the bounces but that has to be the standard. It is for Hughes Miller an Demko. No excuse at 7 million let alone 11

Great to have Demko back....hung him out to dry

Suter was terrible. Blueger has tapered off. Liked Sherwood and Hoglander's energy both came close a few times and were disruptive

This team needs a #2/3D beyond words and 2 without Hronek

It’s funny how we have literally one of the best D in Hughes and an excellent top2 in Hronek, and that’s it.

It’s all place holders after them.

I’d essentially cross out any consideration of a ‘rental’ d-man that’s unsigned for next year+. At this point, it basically needs to be a Hronek 2.0 trade but LHD, and we may need to trade a big asset like the 1st or Lekkerimaki to do it, otherwise we’re just stuck in this defensive void. Then you pray Willander pans out and you can run Hughes-Hronek, LHD-Willander. Hard position to be in.

Lucky to even earn a loser point in this one. If the strategy was to ease Demko back into action, it obviously failed. Without him, this is another regulation loss at home.

Really hope that benching Brannstrom was a one-game decision. I mean how could the blueline be any worse than it was in tonight's game? Ray Ferraro was brutally honest on the color mike, pointing out that the defense had hardly made a direct pass out of their own zone all night long.

Really hope though that Allvin doesn't blow out more picks and prospects for a rental d-man. The only way they're going to improve is to start drafting and developing some better blueliners.

The pro scouting in this organization on the defensive end is garbage. Jake Walman's cap hit is the same as VD's and Forbort's combined. This is roughly the same management that traded for Gudbranson and signed Jack Johnson to an albatross contract. I don't trust Alvin to fix this wreck in season

If you’re this bad now you ain’t gonna be good in the playoffs. He was awful vs the Canucks in the playoffs.
I was literally spamming in the playoff GDTs for the Canucks to keep dumping it into Desharnais’ corner because it was a free turnover. He was not good.

The slow starts have been hurting this team for years, slow starts under Green, slow starts under Bruce, slow starts under Tocchet, but people want to fire the coach again.... Maybe trade some of the core players instead, this recycling of coaches is getting old.

When Allvin went into this offseason and signed Debrusk, Heinen, and Sherwood I was stoked. But I was also wondering when the D was going to get upgraded because it was by far the Canucks weakest position. Days and days go by and the Canucks are still talking to Zadorov and suddenly it stopped. All of a sudden Zads is pissed and immediately signs in Boston. I say to myself it's getting slim pickings but Carrier is still there. Then I look at my phone and see the Canucks signed Desharnais and Forbort. A sick and uneasy feeling came to my stomach. The Canucks position of weakness just became weaker and now we are seeing the results of it today. Allvin puts his eggs all in one basket. We've seen it with Guentzel and now Zadorov. Its time for Allvin to upgrade and fix the problem immediately, Myers, Desharnais and Juulsen are not cutting it. AHL caliber defense.

First two periods were a joke. Sometimes I think this team needs a cattle prong to get them going. A nice comeback in the third but Boes really blew it in OT. I hate 3 on 3.
Atrocious reffing, absolutely brutal call on Boeser on Parayko.

Demmer looked great considering he hasn't played in 7 months. Made some huge stops in the third to keep them in it. Too bad his team hung him out to dry. So many breakaways.

Seriously disappointed with their play as of late, but with this defense I was fully expecting it. Changes are necessary and fast.
