There is "bad luck", like having Demko sustain a bizarre first ever injury or Miller needing to take a leave of absence or Boeser being cheap shotted or Pettersson playing like a bum for an extended period of time, and then there is "bad management" when you build a defense that is a bottom five defense or whatever in the NHL if one of the two best defensemen is injured.

I'm still not convinced Tocchet will play Brannstrom on his offside.

Assuming he won't...

Hughes-Myers
Soucy-Juulsen
Brannstrom-Friedman/Desharnais

If I recall, Brannstrom-Desharnais have had a few decent shifts. Juulsen has played 18+ minutes in two of the last three games, so Tocchet is obviously more comfortable with him.

He may be forced to try it now. Hughes and Myers have never looked good together.

The only way they can make a move right away is if Garland is part of the package. otherwise there just isn't enough cap space.
When Hronek comes off LTIR, have to be able to account for anyone that you acquire as well. Aside from the true bottom feeders, no one else is giving up on the season at this point in time.

Hronek out long term. f***.

This just got a lot harder. I really don't want them to trade the 1st because the schedule is about to get worse.

It's their reality. Limited assets to do anything. Keep dumping assets for temp fixes and you'll never build anything long term. Lots of questions right now. How healthy and good will Demko be when he returns? Really can't make a move and then expect Lankinen to carry the load for the full season.

Time to see if the new regime has done anything for the AHL Dmen development. Seen plenty of F come up. Time to get a glimpse at the D.

Ethan Bear is the solution.

They are missing one more reliable RHD than can cut down’s Myers’ minutes and that’s management’s fault.

I still don’t understand why Desharnaise doesn’t get a longer look than Juulsen and that’s on Tocchet.

It’s also the management fault of trusting Silovs to be the backup after knowing Demko is out long term

I think the forwards UFA signings have all been pretty good overall. But with how many freak injuries happening, I think this is a set back year. Try to recruit some assets on UFA by the TDL to boost the roster in summer, figure out what do you want to do with Hoglander, also FFS what is happening with Miller.

So Hronk is 'out for awhile'. All you can do is pray it isn't the same shoulder that caused him to miss more than half a season in Detroit. And might have been one of the underlying reasons why Yzerman traded him in the first place.

just the way the cookie crumbles in the NHL from season to season. One year every card comes up aces; the next year it's deuces. First Demko, then Joshua, then Boeser, then Miller and now Hronek.

I guess that's where you just have to 'trust the process'. If your system is good enough, you can plug in and play the 'next man up', and keep the train on the tracks. We're about to find out in the next three games.

Going to see a lot of "glass and out" breakout from this group of D. The forwards are going to have a tough time generating speed and rush chances.

Hughes' minutes are going to go through the roof for the next little while! I mean he is a physical beast so I'm sure he can handle it in the short term, but it does become a problem done the stretch and into the playoff if he is asked to play too much.

I don't want Myers anywhere close to Hughes, rather take Friedman there, but RT will not want 2 smaller D on the same pair. I'll give VD a chance, heck even Juulsen (just tell him to don't go for any big hits), just not Myers please!
