Truth be told, that had a lot more in common with the Isalnders game than anyone would like to admit. Difference was the team did a better job boxing out in front, and Lankinen was an absolute beast.

This was like some of the early games last year where Demko carried, and the team played tough hockey in front of the net to negate the 2nd/3rd chances. Also helps that Boston's forwards have hands made of stone outside of Pastrnak.

Petterson line got caved in the first two periods. Did a bit better in the third, but overall not good. Trying to dump and chase against Boston doesn't work as well, and that's been Sherwood's MO this season. Petey and Debrusk needed to carry the puck more, but were hesitent for some reason today.

Thought Hronek was good, but Hughes wasn't on his A game today. You can see how much the team struggles whenever Hughes isn't carrying the load at transitioning the puck. Rest of the d was good in their own zone, although clearing attempts were a bit weak throughout.

Good start to the road trip, and should have a much easier time tomorrow at generating offense.

7 players co-leading the team with 6 goals

Miller
EP
Boeser
Suter
DeBrusk
Garland
Sherwood

Are people happier with this distribution of goals, or would you prefer 1 or 2 really dominant scorers?

What did Brannstrom do wrong to get knocked back to 13:06 TOI?

I couldn't watch the game. Was he injured? Benched for a big mistake?

Doubt you can call us any kind of offensive dynamo after that one. But ekeing out wins. Saint Lakinen is playing like "who needs Demko"! Guys been a road monster and a season saver.

Good

Lankanin - only bad thing is he'll will be way out of reach, salary wise, in the future. . You wonder, if Demko comes back and plays to his previous level, whether you move Lankinen to a contender with goalie issues, for something huge. Guy basically won the game and gave the team 2 points

Garland - looking better on the PP as he gets more time on it. Best forward, again. Ice time reflects that.

Pettersson - playing a good two way game. Tocchet has turned him into a player who sacrifices offense for defensive. Can only do that with a player that is unselfish.

Hughes - always best at zone exits. Carried a lot of the play

Hronek - overall might have been the Canucks best player. Having a good season.

de Brusk - doing what he is getting paid to do - producing points

Sherwood - setting the tone. Bunch like him in this game (Suter, Joshus. Suter) Sticking to the system and keeping some pressure on the other team

Others

Hoglander - just isn't there. Skating is an increasing issue. That 4th line was hanging on by their finger nails. Good that some are getting experience.

Myers - better game. Hoping it can work with Branstrom.

Branstorm - tough game. Forced into down low coverage throughout and had his troubles with that

Juulsen - last season he got into 10 game stretch where he was more than surviving and hopefully play in this game is signalling a repeat of that. Him and Soucy blocked a ton of shots.

Boeser - not good but, given the situation that might be expected. At least he is back playing.

Team, right now, is obviously too dependent on goaltending and defense. But at present that seems their only way to get points.

I thought Raty looked pretty good tonight.
For a kid just turned 22, Raty is amazing in the defensive zone. He's a faceoff machine and covered up for mistakes by the blueliners with some major checks in front of his own goal.

I don't know 'when' or even 'if' his offense will ever come. But defensively, it's impressive seeing such a young player with so strong a two-way game.

Lankinen
  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd star
  • Made some really tough saves tonight
  • Lives for the moment
  • Is confidence in himself
  • Got tired after a long stretch of starting
  • Have to be careful and give goalies rest
  • Has worked on his game in the last week
DeBrusk
  • Always nice to play against a former team
Tonight’s Game
  • Had some moments we wish we had back
  • Got to give the team a lot of credit for grinding out some wins on the road
  • 82 game season and not every win is pretty

Looks to me like Hoglander is suffering from another crisis of confidence.......almost totally ineffective tonight.

Wouldn't be a shock if he's a healthy scratch tomorrow night against the Pens with Sasson drawing back in. Just don't know if it's every going to happen for Hoglander in Vancouver,.

There was a moment where Hoglander had the puck in the middle of the ice with both of our wingers with speed and instead of dumping it in a corner he held on to it so long it put someone offside. Really epitomized his play this year. He is holding on to the puck wayyyyyy toooooo lonnnngggg. Tocchet hates it because he preaches to 'play preditable'. Hoglander is playing a weird game of hot potato chicken every time he grabs the puck - just trying to do too much. Simplify dude.

Brann blocked a hard shot with his hand. Maybe an injury reduced his time?

Pretty sure that shot hit his stick and not his hand? It broke his stick.

Pastrnak got behind Myers and Brannstrom for his breakaway but since they always refuse to show how the play develops on the replay I didn't catch who messed up there exactly. Not sure if it was that play or coaches just didn't like him tonight in general.
