Value of: Giroux to Philly

As of today the Flyers are the 10th best team and Ottawa are ranked 28th. At the deadline if the Flyers are sure of a playoff spot and the Senators are not going to get in, it might make sense to bring back G. The Flyers are weak at LW, poor at faceoffs, and have a woeful PP that is lacking someone to run the top unit from the left wall.

Assuming Claude would agree to return to Philly, what would the Senators want for him? We could start at Frost + Florida's 2024 1st, which is currently the #22 pick.

If Giroux were to be traded, I don't think it'd cost much, considering there wouldn't be a bidding war. It'd by a mutually agreed upon decision by Ottawa and Giroux to move him to one destination.

With that said, I don't think Ottawa would have any interest in trading him for a 2nd round pick, nor do I think he has any interest in being traded.

The lipservice was that he signed here to "help this team win", but the reality is, he signed here because of family. His wife, kids, parents, inlaws, etc are at all the games, come to practices, etc. I think that's more important to him right now than playoffs.

Having just fired the head coach, I think Ottawa would hold him to the TDL before dealing him assuming he waves the NMC. I would expect the return would have to be worth it for Ottawa to part with him though.

If it was really a rebuild they would have traded Laughton in the summer and not have signed a $2.4m 4th liner who has 3 points.

Yeah, it seems like theyre trying to straddle the line.

If Tortorella has them winning, its not a re-build. But if the team starts to really flatline, it could turn into a rebuild firesale.

As a Flyers fan, I’d love to see Giroux back in the Orange & Black. But I couldn’t justify throwing a 1st round pick at it just for nostalgia / a fun playoff run. Can’t waste a 1 when we aren’t a for real cup contender.

Only way it’d work is if Giroux really wanted it to happen and Ottawa would settle for a 2.

That return won’t be popular with most Senators fans (nor should it), but that seems like a fair price considering the big discount G gave them on his contract. He’s earned/deserves to be traded and to pick the destination, if he so desires.

That being said, there’s no indication he wants that. Like none at all.

Don't do that to G. Although I wonder how he'd clash with Torts. Might not be bad for some players to have an advocate.

The rebuild talk was just lip service, so if they sucked this year they could use it as an excuse. The Flyers are destined to always be a middle of the road organization.

Flyers fans have to admit its better than Sam C. asking about Johnny Hockey. Frost and fla 1 feels like perfect amount.

No reason to bring Giroux back. It's time to move on, and I'm a huge Giroux fan. Regardless of where the Flyers are come trade deadline time, we should still be working towards the re-build

Agreed, I am a huge Giroux fan but time to move on...we for once have some good youth, tenacity and SPEED.

With Tippett's emergence and Flyers still waiting to select Panthers 1st round pick next year (in addition to 3rd rounder this past year), this looks like a solid trade for Philly.

Both can be true.

Lol at the OP I wouldnt trade Ottawa rosters for philly in any scenario. Giroux isnt going anywhere. He has been just under a ppg for over 100 games in Ottawa. He has a full season left after this one he's worth way more than a late first.

Everyone thinking Ottawa is going to have a fire sale without seeing this team under a new coach is playing too much EA Sports.

Giroux has a NMC. He's from the Ottawa area which was the largest reason for going to the Senators. I don't see this happening.

But Philly is Philly. Can't act like he didn't spend 10+ years prior there (and tried to stay permanently).

If there's one place Giroux would leave Ottawa for based on personal feelings, it'd be Philly.

But anyway, it doesn't matter. Flyers shouldn't want to acquire Giroux anyway. They should be trying to sell off pieces.

It makes no sense and I'd do it in a heartbeat. If this Flyers team is gonna f*** around and make the playoffs anyway, I'd want to see 28 on the ice when they started. No rationale to it.

If you want to gauge the impact he can have on talented young players, earlier this season Konecny was interviewed in the intermission of a Flyers/Sens game. Asked what it was like to now play against his former Captain, Konecny said he owes his entire career and anything he accomplishes to Claude Giroux. Of course I want that absolute legend back on the fold, you kidding me?

I think it makes a lot of sense. We need left wingers / centers. G plays LW/C. We need some play drivers / someone who can pass. That is G to a T. Fans love him, teammates love him and he loves the city.

The only part that doesn’t make sense is trading rebuild assets. And really, if the Sens fall totally out of it and want a rebuild of their own and they want to do right by G and let him go where he wants, I feel like there’s a chance he moves without a 1 involved. And a 2nd+3rd or something like that would be palatable IMO.
