Sammy is a damn good puck moving d-man, but he can be better on another team. I really like Sammy G, but he could blossom into a much better player on another team. He is not going to be a top 3 defenseman for the Avalanche. He is a puck moving defenseman that could run a Kraken powerplay unit. 5x5 team him with Vince Dunn and you got a solid first line on defense.

Oleksiak brings the physical game to the Avalanche that is missing. Trade deadline we added Josh Manson, but he is a UFA at seasons end and may not be able to re sign him Jamie brings the physical element we lost when Zadorov was traded. He won't be relied on to bring his offensive game, but a stay at home defensive guy.

Both are signed for 4 more years at basically the same salary. So, what do you all think about this? It would be benificial to both teams moving forward.

I've been told that Girard is one of the top 20 dmen in the entire league by an avs fan, so they generally probably value him more highly than you do. More than Oleksiak, anyway.

Girard is signed for 1 year longer, and is 6 years younger. Pass

I rather ship Girard with others pieces to try and get Chychrun instead.
Why? Chychrun does what Girard does. Avalanche needs some muscle on defense with the Wild going totally thug mentality. Oleksiak checks that box. The age thing is not an issue. Oleksiak has several years of solid defensive play. I would hate to see Girard go, but on a team like Seattle, he could reach new heights. Sammy will not leapfrog over Makar, Toews or Byrum, so give the kid a chance to be the player he can be.

Easy no from me as a Kraken fan. Oleksiak is the backbone of our D-core and his stats this year match how good has he been on the ice for us. Girard is undoubtedly solid on the offense side of things but this trade makes the Kraken worse not better.

What's the incentive for Seattle? They already have Dunn who plays that role just as well while being bigger and more physical, both are a bit weak defensively. Oleksiak wears a letter and is a key part of the defensive system they're trying to run. They need more like him not less.

If he's traded this offseason, Girard will be traded for forward help or a package to rebuild some younger depth. Unless they do a LD for RD trade which is not usually available.

Oleksiak's knock has always been that he does not use his size and strength to his advantage. I have seen more physicality in midget league games from players half his size.

Though a Colorado lens, it's bad value.

Girard is having a down year but we all suspect he's been playing hurt, and it's been far from ideal that he's been paired with Erik or Jack Johnson all season. Down year or not, Girard is a big part of the Avalanche's secondary scoring and they've been hurting in that department since he went down.

Sakic just paid a pile of assets for Josh Manson, who - on paper - seems like the perfect partner for Girard. As long as Manson is re-signed, or replaced with a different free agent, Sakic doesn't need to make this trade.

I think this is really the case on both sides. Oleksiak is the primary part of our team defense. He is signed to a very reasonable contract and while I won't consider anyone untouchable on the Kraken, Oleksiak and Dunn are the least likely D-men to be moved from our team. Not for Girard anyway.

This Kraken fan says no, too. Trading Oleksiak in a deal like this would be taking us in the wrong direction. Easy call.

Chychrun is muscle.

Are you confusing him with someone else?
