Since he came back from having his appendix out, iirc Gibson has taken more starts than Dostal, so he's still more or less considered 'the' guy there (that's NOT to say Dostal is available, he's obviously the bright future). It's been about a 60/40 workload split which seems to be working out well as they both get enough work to stay sharp but not overworked either. It's almost a 1A/1A (1B/1B?) goalie tandem at the moment. Is Gibson overpayed for what he's brought the past few years, sure. However, taken as a whole their goalie tandem payroll hit is quite reasonable (Dostal needs a new contract this offseason(?) & he will be getting paid decently). The Ducks are way under the salary cap & Gibson's contract actually helps a lot to reach the floor...
So, to get him you'll need to convince PV that it's a good idea to break up one of the better goalie duos in the league at the moment. A duo that keeps the team in more games than they otherwise should be competitive in.
With the cap going up considerably, it's not completely out of the realm of possibility to lock down Dostal with a solid contract 'and' keep Gibson for the remainder of his. The team is also on the brink of being seriously competitive again (depending on what PV can do in the offseason to fix some holes). Putting a solid team in front of two solid goalies is hardly a bad thing to look forward to.
Gibson has never publicly demanded a trade & PV has stated that it would take a big overpayment to even consider it (assuming he'd waive his NMC...)
Goalies tend to not return a whole lot to begin with. Right now there is zero reason to trade him just to get a midround pick or two/a player that is barely hanging in the league, someone that won't make a difference within a year or so. A contract will have to come back to keep them above the cap floor...and you won't be dumping a lousy contract/player without increasing the value elsewhere.
Without a serious overpayment (for what goalies typically get), I can't see the Ducks having any interest in moving him now/at least through next year. What that will be I don't know, but you won't be happy having to pay it...
