Getting to NVMC by Public Transportation

Lets Go Islanders!

I would like to FINALLY make an Islanders game this season at Nassau. I usually catch them when they play in MSG or The Rock as, for me, it is easier to get to those arenas than NVMC.

Being that it might be their last season at the Coliseum, plus the fact I might be moving out west soon, I want to see them play on their home ice a couple times this season.

My question is, what is the easiest way to get out to NVMC via public transportation? I know I can probably grab the LIRR from Penn Station, then grab a bus to the Coliseum. I'm just worried that the buses would stop running at a certain time and I could be stuck there without a way to get to the train.

I would like to try and make the Sat afternoon games, but they don't have any on the schedule until after the new year and I don't want to wait till then.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Mike

the buses are incredibly unreliable. sometimes i'm able to get them going to NVMC, but never on the way back. you're better off taking a cab.

LIRR to Mineola or Westbury, then taxi to the Coliseum. In reverse when the game is over.

Trains stop more frequently at Mineola than they do at Westbury, so you should definitely head to Mineola after the game.

Are the taxi's reliable? Are they driving around NVMC after the game or should I have the number of a cab company handy?

There are cabs outside of the Coliseum after the game but it doesn't hurt to have the phone number for a car service.

When I went to four games on my last trip to NY at the start of 2011-2012, I walked from Hempstead Station to NVMC each time - about 35-40 minutes for me. To get back to Hempstead, I walked back twice (once for a day game), took the bus (after the Rangers game on a Saturday), and hitched a ride with someone I met at the game after the opener. Good times.

Not a good place to be walking around at night...
