You're welcome! Aside from being a filthy, disgusting, packer backer I appreciate your hockey posts a ton.

It is night and day with sponsorship here. If you spend as much time as I do on this site (although I'm not a prolific poster) $12 a year makes it such a better experience!
LOL, I appreciate the kind words! I had been going back and forth on if I should get a sponsorship or not. I did not realize how much better it is without ads. I should have known lol

Got a new Laptop for the first time in a decade... got a Lenovo 2 in 1.
I'm actually posting this with a stylus pen! Very strange

I think I could get used to this though ;)

The current flag also looks nearly identical to like 30 other states. Its just a state seal on a blue background.

You can't identify them from the distances you see flags from.

None of the finalists (or even entries) are slam dunks though.

Flag Finalists

Top right is my favorite but I'm not sure about the slight pastel tint to the colors that give off generic modern website vibes.
Top left feels like a very generic and corporate and imo would look bad when its hanging vertical.
Bottom looks like a decorative mini-flag that you see hanging in gardens that also looks bad when hanging vertical.

I think any new flag is going to feel off and too modern though just because its won't start with any history and will feel contrived.
I know I'm being a cranky old man, but every one of these looks like something you'd see on the letterhead for a county tourism board somewhere in Iowa.

I don't know what kicked off this soi disant "vexillologist" thing online, but I'm ready for it to be over. Especially because if Minnesota changes their flag there's bound to be a whole gaggle of people in Wisconsin insisting that they need to do the same.

I like the upper left one the most, for its simplicity, but I'm not a huge fan of the wavy line which, I imagine, is supposed to represent a river? I think it's a very modern design, and won't age well, but will age better than the other two. Maybe. I think it's better than our current flag for reasons of being decent, empathetic humans, so there's that.

When did business owners / managers stop caring about their staff looking like slobs? Seems like half the places I walk into today I'm met with hobos who just happen to hold a job at said place. Nasty stained sweat pants, ass hanging out, flabby belly proudly displayed to the world. I stocked shelves and bagged at the grocery store in Champlin in a dress shirt and tie as a kid, lol. Look, I realize it doesn't matter at all in the grand scheme of things. I'm sensationalizing something I've been musing on for a while now. Im just more or less curious why a business owner wouldnt care. Is it because if they dont hire the hobo they wont hire anyone? Don't mind me, I'll just go back to sucking on my Werthers originals and talking about the good old days while shaking my finger at kids walking by my house.

(Werthers originals are f***ing awesome, btw)

After the final rounds of the flag design committee they have apparently decided on this.

MN_State_Flag_FINAL_A2_mockup-1.jpg

I like the star (especially since it already exists in the capitol rotunda) and the stylized K shape of the state.

Unsure of the light blue.

Its hilarious to me that they had 1000's of submissions for the flag design, they pick a "winner" then redesign it to the point that it looks nothing like the original.

Agreed on the whole "you win, but we're going to redesign it still" thing. Gotta love a surplus budget I guess. I dont hate it. I like the solid light blue over the white/green/blue scheme of the "winner'

The argument that won the committee over on the solid blue was something along the lines of when hanging vertically it looks like if you follow the Mississippi river it disappears under the north star.

I don't need meaning in designs but it is cool that such a simple design can contain 2 of the most defining features of Minnesota (maybe 3 with the cold colors) without looking shoe-horned in. Most won't even notice them.

I like it. Distinct, simple, recognizable. Great decision to get rid of the stripes.

totally anonymous, generic, and unremarkable. I'm sure that someone will be offended on the behalf of the colors, green, brown, black, and yellow, though.

Now i can forget i ever saw it.

Hey now, don't go dissin my look.

Working retail just sucks, it's a revolving door of people in and out. Owners/managers care, the just don't care enough to make the pay good enough for their workers to care. It's easy enough for the employees to quit working at "store F" and get the same job at "store L" for the same hours/pay within a week. Plus the more bedraggled you look, the less likely it is that people will come up and ask you random questions.

Speaking as someone who has nasty stains on almost every pair of pants (jeans, dress, sweats, it doesn't matter). I'll take wearing the sweats (or overalls) almost all the time. They are cheaper and I'm less likely to blow out the ass, crotch, knees in them. If I had to replace my pants every time I stained them I'd be buying 2 or 3 new ones every week.

Off on a tangent. I really am liking the new insulated carhart pants I got. Yes, they got stained within 2 days of me wearing them (wore them hunting).

Happy holidays everyone. =)

Saying it now because I'm playing chicken with my internet and the phone version of the site makes me mad. Getting fiber on the 27th and I my current service ends yesterday (I think).

This is gonna make me sound like a b#@$h, but I don't care. It's really getting frustrating seeing first responders having to put their lives at risk, because some idiots don't have the brain cells to understand that the ice on most of the lakes is too damn thin. Do they not understand how weather works? Are they even remotely aware of what the temps have been like? Maybe the dirt and rain would be a dead giveaway.

At this point, they should just come out and say, if you are so desperate to get out on the ice to fish, or to simply fool around, then you are on your own. Save yourself. We're not wasting the resources and risking the lives of responders just because you don't have the smarts and the patience to wait until it's safe.

Venting over....

And P.S.....DON'T BRING YOUR PETS ON THE ICE WITH YOU! If you want to drown, fine. But leave the animals out of it.

The wife just shrugged and said that's just another Tuesday at work. People are dumb and/or do dumb stuff all the time.

She'd also rather do something slightly dangerous rather than something like deliver a baby in the back of an ambulance because the woman didn't know she was pregnant.

A place.
I’m so glad the holidays are over at this point. My stress levels are finally getting back to normal. Anyone got any big projects coming up for this year? Personally, I need to look at a couple of court filings. Specifically I need to sue my ex for the rent money she owes me. And also got to look at filing for a name change.

How are y'all liking winter now that it finally showed up?

I'm sick of shoveling, part of my cherry tree fell on my house and scared the heck outta me last night, and I almost got stuck in a parking lot downtown yesterday. Other than that winter is great, or something.
