Rocky 2 is nowhere near the greatness of Rocky 1. Carl Weathers is still fantastic though. Butkus rocks too.

Ok fellow nerds. I may have drank too much during the Wild game tonight. After the loss I played some FF16. Now I'm flipping through the streaming services and found one of my childhood classics on Hulu. Earnest Goes to Camp (prison is better imho). So I'm sitting here watching this movie and I'm wondering... how does a movie made I'm 1987 look as good as it does? I mean... it is crisp, clear, and just generally HD as if it was made yesterday. Surely there should be some 80's limitations surrounding the cameras? All of my 6+ year old memories of this are firmly centered in bunny ear antenna TV and VHS. It's really throwing me through a loop.

Also.... don't bother watching this one as it does not hold up.

Film still has resolution to spare that 4k digital has not yet matched.

Remember, film is not made up of pixels, nor is it put together by linear or interlaced lines to create the image. It is a single complete image frame, replaced sequentially with other complete image frames.

As our television tech improves, it's just fleshing more of the already available film resolution out to us (they make these digital copies we see from the film source).

It's thought that film and digital will finally equalize around 8k resolution... but that's not yet confirmed, and that's still a long ways off, so anything shot on film and displayed using film is still superior to that shot on and displayed digitally.

It's why people like Christopher Nolan still make movies using film exclusively, despite the higher expense.

You guys know of any good places to get Wild/Twins/etc gear for decent prices since I am not local anymore? Fanatics and online Wild store are insane prices, even with the "sales".

Veteran's Day is Sat this year but some places are doing their deals on different days this year. So if you're going for the free food coma double check to make sure you have the correct day. Like Denny's is listed as breakfast on Friday and Golden Corral as sometime Monday.

I was at Farm and Fleet today (free hat day here) and they have their Vet day discount (10% I think) going on already. If you can work it right you can get Black Friday deals and add the vet discount on top of it.

I believe I read this correctly, and if so, thank you very much for your service, Sir. And enjoy the discounts all. :)

Thanks, I was in the Navy. There are a few other vets on here too. I have my day all planned out.

Reservations are already made for the fancy steak place in town for supper.
Dunkin- free donut
IHop- for the pancakes
Starbucks - free regular coffee, spouses get free coffee too (maybe, depends on the line)
Festival Foods - Scavenger hunt for free food stuffs, when you spend $20. They also have the turkey for $1 pound when you spend $25.
Wendy's breakfast (maybe, if I like the kid this morning)
Target and Kohls, mostly to walk off some calories.
Lunch orders from Famous Dave's (for the wife), Taco Johns, Little Ceasers (it's near the kid's work so I'll take her lunch), Texas Roadhouse (voucher pickup).
Casey's for a fountain drink.
Lots of Dine-in options for lunch, but I'll probably skip them since it's the weekend and places will be packed.
Food coma nap time
Wake, up shower, put on decent clothes, and go to the fancy steak place.

I went to Hyvee yesterday for their free breakfast, got a sweatshirt and a cool coin too. First time I've been there and all I could think was "Shopko is wrong."

Holy Cow! What a day! I feel I would burst from food. lol I hope it was a wonderful day for you. I work in a grocery store so I find the scavenger hunt idea pretty cool. Happy Veterans Day to you and all of the other Vets. We are all lucky to have people like you.

I don't understand the "Shopko is wrong." Could you elaborate on that for me? I know I am dumb.

Hyvee moved into the Shopko building here, they renovated the inside but the outside is still the same. We used to go to Shopko a few times a week before it closed. They had the best pharmacy and between the wife, the kid, and my ma there were a lot of prescriptions to pick up on a regular basis.

I got the food sweats about halfway through my steak supper and tapped out. Went home and passed out. We have takeout to last us 2 more days. It was a good day.

The scavenger hunt is 12 free things: 12 pack of Pepsi, a couple loaves of bread, pound of sliced ham, a couple bags of ships, frozen pizza, frozen fries, bottle of ph water, dozen coffee pod things, bottle of snapple, and a can of the death something water. I paid ~$27 on the ~$85 total. We already have a turkey in the freezer so we skipped getting the turkey this year.

Ahh, I see! I gotcha now. We too lost our Shopko a few years ago.. I believe it is the home of Uhaul in town here or something like that now. Something I don't use anyway. Shopko was a good store, and more enjoyable to walk into than the super busy Target, and the super busy and super unfriendly Walmart.

I'm glad you had such a good day. I commend you on your attempt on the food. lol It sounds like a pretty great deal to get all of that for $27 dollars. Honestly, I'm surprised the regular total was only $85. Food is just crazy and it's good to take every advantage you can.

Can't stand HyVee
Why’s that?

I’ve had boring but pleasant experiences there (anecdotal).

There’s a Cub in the area near me but they let the store go to shit (pre-HyVee). By that I mean it was dirty and run down. As soon as word of Hy-Vee being brought into the area, they started doing renovations. Haven’t been back to Cub since.

I refuse to shop at Walmart.

Aldi is perfectly fine for some things. If you get produce, you need to eat it within 3 days or it goes bad, at least in my experience.

I’ll shop at Costco occasionally but their portion sizes are simply too big for me, most times.

They have the worst grocery store organization system I've ever seen. You end up having to go back and forth through the store repeatedly because their layout doesn't make sense. Stuff that relates isn't near each other naturally.

Cub is where I go, but I've never had a "run down" Cub experience like you have either.
I've never had to go back to an aisle in Cub like I have literally every time I've stepped into a HyVee. Cub's aisles adjacent to each other, naturally relate as you go through. I for one love the efficiency it gives to my grocery shopping.

And it's not like I live in the boonies or anything. I'm in Cottage Grove. But I suppose when you don't really have competition, you're content with how things are.

I swear, the floors were dirty and the lighting made it look like you were in a horror movie (some hyperbole there)

Has anyone else seen this little robot car riding around Minneapolis? It's Orange, about 5-6' long, 3' high, and narrow. Looks like a miniature version something they would've used to set land speed records back in the 50's at the Bonneville salt flats. Or on the Jetsons. I don't know if it's a mapping device, or what. Goes about 20-30 mph. It was in Bloomington both times I saw it.

absolutely not... I know them well. This is far smaller, narrower, and is unmanned. Again, looks like an old fashioned spaceship... not nearly as curvy and modern as the Slingshot.

Somewhere in between the food delivery robots found at Purdue and the Slingshot.

Maybe a solar powered car? The U of M engineering school has one that sort of sounds like your description, except it's manned and not orange. Clemson has one that matches even closer.

Oh dang! This is from Rochester. Maybe it's made it's way north? Definitely fits on the weird, orange, and self-driving metrics. Not exactly 50's space-shipy to my eye, though.
