my prediction:
3-2 Belarus, Kostitsyn scores a hattrick! ;)

I'm assuming they'll let Montoya rest up for tomorrow - anyone know for sure? Last year vs the weak team I'm pretty sure Montoya played though, so who knows :dunno:

I'll say 5-2 USA.

do you rest montoya and give schnieder some playing time? or do you want to keep playing montoya to get him to sharpen up? does he need rest or more play? :dunno:

maybe they'll start him and then rest him in the second half, completely making stuff up here...

as long as the USA shows up, i'd say 5-1 USA, kessel gets his first goal, and an assist. Callahan gets another goal :)

That's the question I have. Based on what I've read, I think Schneider gets the start, but if he struggles, Montoya might clean-up. I'm looking for a much better overall effort from the U.S. tonight. The goals for will be there (probably in the 6-8 range), but I want the goals against down. There's no reason the U.S. should give up more than two goals, and even that's pushing it. I hope everyone is firing on all cylinders.

I don't think firing on all cylinders would be a smart thing to do considering you have a big game tomorrow.

yeah, i just wonder if they want to give Al more playing time to settle down, or if they think resting him a game will be better. unless schnieder has a ton of work and plays amazing, i doubt they'd go with him the rest of the tourney...Al is still the #1 guy, but he's gotta settle down

and i hope the US is ready to play tighter defense...

well we don't want them to tire themselves out, but they need to play a solid, complete game and not have a bunch of mistakes and mishaps.

I disagree. A team/player should give their best effort regardless of the competition. I'm not looking for everyone on the team to be spent physically with no hope of recovery for tomorrow, just a balanced attack and appropriate attention to the defensize zone with competant goaltending, whether that comes from Montoya or Schneider.

it's also likely that the top players for the US won't get a ton of icetime tonight, as long as the US is comfortably ahead

man, 9:30 start...wtf, i have work tomorrow dammit! stupid tape delay

Even though the U.S. is 2-0, they cannot be happy with the way they won those games. They need to be put in a dominating effort, ala Canada, and crush Belarus! If they do not, it will be all down hill from here.

goal differential becomes the first tiebreaker in this tournament(i think this is right and not head to head results)...so say the US wins tonight but loses to the Czechs later and Russia wins out...well then goal differential becomes what determines who is the number one seed in the group and therefore who draws the all important first round medal round bye(again if i'm not mistaken)..and since the US trails Russia now in goal differential, winning big could welll prove to be critical,so winning large therefore becomes a priority i would guess

If I were Sandelin, I would stress getting an early lead of 3 or 4 goals against Belarus, then concentrate on a good team effort defensively. Wingers covering their point-men, centerman helping down low, defensemen clearing guys out from in front of the net and clearing rebounds.

The States need a shutout here.

American game on Tsn at 8:30 tonight.

:handclap: I've seen the Americans play, and was impressed by their high tempo and skill game. Watch how fast their transition game to offense happens and how fast they break in on 2 on 1's or 3 on 2's. Not only do they play at a fast tempo, they also play with dogged intensity. Even though O'Sullivan hasn't put up lots of points yet, watch how talented he is with his offensive creativity, passing and shooting. Hopefully Canada and the US. meet in the semis or finals...it will be a fascinating game to watch. Canada has dominated their games but they are in a much weaker division than the US. Obviously, though, Canada is strictly the team to beat. :yo:
