GDT: GDT: Finland vs. Latvia, Group A, Dec 31 2024; 20:30 CET

Latvia has all kinds of disadvantages: it's the second game of back-to-backs, and they're experiencing an emotional lull after achieving their tournament goal last night. Osmanis is out, and Feldbergs should be rested. Finns are rested and probably want that 2nd spot in the group. So, all in all, it's a perfect storm for getting soundly whooped.

Latvia does not stand a chance. Osmanis has driven most of our offence and if someone like Serkins is moved up to the top line, there's no longer any secondary scoring in middle 6, etc.

Our best shot is to have good/lucky goaltending and just try to keep it close. Even if that happens, the wheels will fall off at the end and Finland will win with another 3-1.

Our leading players played 20-27 minutes last night.

So for me this is more about watching how our prospects will handle this. Can they stay mentally strong and disciplined throughout the game even if they're 0-5 down?

I don't like not being a part of the action on the final day of group play.

But I'll be rooting for Latvia in this one and any game(s) they have after that. Sorry Finland, I love you, but this year I am fully on the Latvia bandwagon.
However, I really don't want us to end up in the same group as Latvia again next year. If we manage to avoid relegation of course.

Hope it will be fun game with no injuries.

I don’t know if this Latvian group knows how to mail it in, but they should just get through it and prep for the QF. Love the heart in the ensemble, though.

Really unfortunate about Osmanis. Hopefully this doesn’t impact the rest of his life.

Any reason the time on this GDT title is CET vs. others that are EST?
Yes, Europeans are located in European time zones. I for one couldn't be arsed to look up the EST for the Germany game. It's mostly Finns and Latvians watching. So you have to do the exact same thing we would have to do otherwise - look up what the heck CET/EST is

What do you mean?
Just a guess but by finishing top 2 in their pool that poster was thinking that would mean his team would avoid Canada or the USA in the quarterfinals.
But now a Finland win means they could finish second meaning the 2nd place finisher in pool A would face one of those 2 teams
