Many things -- - lack of funding, lack of players in the league who can move the needle of interest and desire to play in Elmont vs MSG and coaching ability.

Number 1 reason to get rid of Lou. Isles can’t let him control another deadline. He’s got to go. This is just dumb at this point. Get on with it.
I get the feeling regardless of the GM the owners won't allow a rebuild, arena is still new and they don't want plummeting attendance, and with the all star game next year and all that other stuff opening up they want a little buzz, of course their only hurting this franchise in the long run but they don't understand that or they don't care

Keep defending Roy. Two brutal changes. The clown show with the goalie out. No timeout at 1:26 after the icing? Really? Why is Isiah George out there? His play on goal 2 exposed Mayfield and the ridiculous turnover. I don't blame him. I blame the guy who put him there, Oh my.

The Dobson play on goal one, as stupid as he is, is very likely what he has been told to do. The have 2 d below the goal line way too often for it to be a coincidence,

Enough with the lack of "talent" and the Lou stuff. Do Columbus and Philly have more "talent"?

When it looked like Trotz or Barzal - many here were wanting which one? Well we got it.

they keep letting this go and the arena will be empty. This is a very hard team to be a fan of. GM rarely comes out of hiding. Everything runs under a cloak of silence. Little to no media coverage. And we suck. Ownership to me looks MIA to me…

Really just looks as if the players are too comfortable (top 9 and 4)...and the rest past George, do not belong in the NHL to begin with - Sorokin exempt.

Entertain offers on all but Sorokin, George and Romo unless returning a Kings ransom...honorable mention: Holms.

No problem moving all but Barzal, Dobson, Nelson & Palms for a bag of pucks and an 8th round pick.

But what is the point in keeping Sorokin at that point? He's gonna be 30 next year which means he probably only has 3-4 peak years left, everyone should be for sale to the highest bidder, maybe George can stay around

Yea I’m almost at the trade Sorokin point also. I really don’t like the way his game has changed.

Because no matter where you are in a build, a good goaltender can make a significant difference in a teams growth.

This was back when you couldn’t make an entire post in all caps so the common fix was to post a lowercase “a” at the end.

Based on what? Keeping a good goaltender around to get shelled every night does neither him nor the team any good. Sorokin will be in his mid 30s when and if the Islanders become actually competitive again. Make it 30 yr old journeyman Hogberg's net and sell, sell, sell. He won't care, he'll be happy just to get a regular NHL paycheck.

Sorry ... Will never agree that a total sell off is the right way to go.

Isles were 11-13-5 at that point, went on to miss playoffs by a point.

Hate me or love me.

Rebuild…it…starts…now.

Edit: Sorokin is actually the hardest choice for me. This franchise drafted and developed a franchise goalie. Put him behind a better team and his numbers will reflect that.

You need vets to provide stability and support during rebuilds.

The youth can get disillusioned by a lack of wins and rewards; thereby stunting their growth.

First off, let me say that this is not a shot at anyone, and I mean that sincerely, because the phrase is so ubiquitous, but that's an amazing post from 8 years ago . It says so much, to me anyway. The phrase "make the playoffs" remains such a mantra around here, and TBH, around the league, but more so here IMO. It's never, 'I can't believe you think this team can"compete for a Cup" or "really has a shot at being something special". Just "make the playoffs". It's such a low bar, a 50/50 proposition, and yet for many, the holy grail. I hate it.
