Love to have Johnny in Horvat’s wing here in Vancouver. But Benning messed up our cap so badly we can’t take on Johnny’s salary (even though it’s very fair).

Will take Gaudreau off your hands. Rust + 15OA + a prospect not named Poulin

Pittsburgh doesn't have what it takes to land Gaudreau. At least nothing appealing.

I don't see Gaudreau as someone ideal for Pittsburgh. He likes to have the puck to make plays happen, but you guys already have Crosby and Malkin to drive the play.

Calgary cannot afford to trade both in the same off season.

My guess is Gaudreau in 2020 and Monahan in 2021. We'll see, but we are more inclined to retain Monahan based on the glaring weakness at C.

Monahan, Ruzicka, Zavgorodny (Lafreniere linemate at Rimouski) for Canes1st (~22d), Lias, Buchnevich, Hajek ... or so

Brutal for the Flames. I feel like prospects are better from the Flames than what is coming from the Rangers
2 1sts, 2d, 3rd for
1st(oldest player), 4th. 7th is brutal?
Ok, my bad
glad to keep our guys
I was really trying to be fair
NYR will find their 2C, maybe at less cost, not urgent
NyR not contending til '21-22, or later, anyway

I really think Calgary should tear it down. They're not good enough to win a cup and problem is lacking elite talent and players who can't elevate their game in big situations.
You can't add the elite cup winning talent to a team through minor trades and UFA signings. The only way to do it is through drafting. They could sell off everyone over 25 and build around Tkachuk and Andersson going forward, but they'd need to hit on some top 5 picks to find a future #1C and #1D.

If they continue their course they're the next Minnesota destined for nearly a decade of mediocrity.

Sabres could really use Monahan. I’d be loathe to give up Cozens. Something starting with 8th overall and Mittelstadt?

8th overall, Mittlestadt & Montour for Monahan and a small +?

Right, I forgot breaking down a trade was this straight forward

If they continue on their current course they'll be the Iginla era Flames again.

Built around an elite winger with questionable C depth and an over rated D core, but this time sans Kipper.

Yeah pretty much. Its never been a winning model. Look at the cup winners from the past 11+ seasons. Only the Caps were "built" around a winger but that winger is the best goalscorer in history and the rest of the team was very solid in build. 2 #1Cs, a #1Dman with other good top 4 guys, great depth, an elite goaltender who was hot.

I'd probably do this but only because I'm scared the Flames will do something dumb like trade Monahan straight up for Ristolainen or something like that.

Yeah, the Caps were built around a winger, but their C depth was anything but questionable. When they won the Cup they had 2 C's better than our 1C.
