Hutson is a game breaker, makes a huge difference when you have a dman that can drive your offense like that.

It makes me despise Pierre Dorion even more, maybe he was an undercover hired to force then sabotage our rebuild.

And to think we started with guys like Karlsson, Stone, Duchene, etc in their PRIMES... makes it so much more infuriating.

Is there still people who doubt how bad Dorion was?

"you have to move on" lmao

Is it too much of a stretch to say the game against the Wings is a must win? Still early in the season but we can't afford to have another team pass us. Would be demoralizing.

Seeing the Habs in wc2 feels super gross.

The next two games are absolute must wins against teams nipping our heels. I know there's a flu going through the room. The guys need to work through this one

By points % the Senators still occupy the 2nd wild card spot.

The Habs have looked good and are 8-2 in their last 10. Like any team, they will have the hot streak end and have a string of losses.

All that said, the Senators have an uphill battle with no Ullmark and multiple injuries to depth players.

Our star players need to find the net consistently while playing tight defensively. We started the nice streak with mentality of winning 2-1 games and they need to get back to that.

Leevi has the opportunity to snatch an NHL gig. Let's see how he rises to the challenge.

Exactly what you said Mtl doesn't impress me and I know there team well they are in hot streak when a lot of good teams are not doing great.

Frankly it was our chance to make big gap but we did fairly well in out toughest strech of the season.Habs will play vs good team really soon and will have a lot of games against us. All iur division games are coming up vs weaker teams too .

It's all about us finnaly producing and meeting expectation even trough adversity Ulmark out, depth issues, bad pp for few games and bad 5vs5 .

Green should just focus on 5vs5 200 foot play and PP. Fix those two and even with average below average goaltending we fine add the fact that schedule is easier from now on and we usually good in the 2nd half of the season. Habs succes is all about cofidence our big guys need some in spades asap.

I doubt Montreal will keep this up. Never say never but you look at that 2nd and 3rd line and I don’t think they can keep a good enough pace to steal a wildcard. Their top pair is playing well right now but they aren’t defensive stalwarts.

It’s really great for the league though and I’m happy for a bunch of fanbases right now. Pretty much all teams other than the Sabres are still in it. 4 points separate the 8th spot to the 15th place Islanders. 4 points is nothing, a hot streak and you’re in the wildcard spot like we’re seeing with Montreal.

Many fanbases who haven’t been in the hunt at the midway point of the season for a few years have some excitement. The race wil be insane.

MTL can't sustain their current play. If they do, it means their young guys have made some significant progress in their development. Having said that, f*** MTL and may they go on a 10 game losing streak now.

They have won 8 of their last 10 games, their last 5 wins were against Florida, Tampa Bay, Vegas, Colorado and Vancouver

But you're right, Sens have to focus on themselves, can't make the playoffs anyway if you're only playing for 0.500%, I'd say they will need about 25 wins in the last 44 games. It would also help to get some points when they lose as well. 2nd lowest amount of OTL or SOL in the league since 2020-21 and also since last season.

Problem is there is like 9-10 teams fighting for 2 spots and all of them are about the same level and could claim the spots.

I'd say there is a clear Top-6 in the East right now : Caps, Leafs, Hurricanes, Devils, Panthers, Lightning. They will all make the playoffs, 3 teams from each Division

The remaining 10 teams are all about the same level. although I think Ottawa, Boston, Montreal, Columbus and Pittsburgh could separate themselves from the pack. Rangers should be at the top of this tier or even in the first tier but that team got derailed, which helps us.

You're right that it's exactly what Bettman wanted all the way and frankly it's much better than some other sports where money seems to dictate things more.

I'm not really "allowed" to talk about the 2nd team I know the most about (lmao) but have to reply to what you said. Note that their 2nd line is missing Patrik Laine at the moment.

It pains me to see that Suzuki and Caufield are producing at Stutzle's and Batherson's pace. Thankfully Slafkovsky is not at Tkachuk's but he's also only 20. Good thing that Dach and Newhook are having bad seasons statistically. But the problem is that their bottom-6 has been contributing a lot more than you would normally expect (Evans is on pace for 46 pts for example). There's also the fact that Carrier really balanced their whole defense, a bit like it did for us with Jensen.

The good news is that since December 17th, as they are 8-2, their advanced metrics are closer to average than at the top. They have vastly outscored their excepted goals and their goalies have saved a lot of goals above expected, which means it could be just a hot streak and they eventually cool off. And that is great because being hot could prevent them from selling at the deadline and would get them farther from another top pick.

All that said, Boston is still our top competition due to their recent successes as a team. Habs 2nd or 3rd I'd say with Pittsburgh due to the Crosby/EK/Malkin/Letang factor. Columbus has some nice young talent and Werenski is having a Norris season. Rangers and Islanders have the goaltending and team defense but as long as the Rangers don't turn it around I'm not too worried.

Mission accomplished for Bettman but I wish we were in that first tier... I think we're the closest team from that but need some roster tweaks IMO (no more Hamonic, good back-up, another Top-6 forward and better depth in general). Hopefully Staios can turn more situations into positive like it did with Ullmark.
