If both sides puts $100million each down and winner takes all plus all revenues.

That would make it interesting.

Morozov says the NHL shows an interest to the proposed idea by KHL. If nothing changed, the KHL proposes win-win situation, both leagues share costs & revenues 50/50. Would be great to know what the KHL proposed. It is definitely not only about a game. It is all around it, bussiness & all.

Earlier I read about proposal to play a game at soccer Gazprom Arena in St.Petersburg. Could be an option now.

LOL the worst NHL team would smash the best KHL team.

Except they havent. It's happened before, and the games were close. Three games back in 2008 and 2010. KHL team won once, and no game was more than 2 goals apart.

And in the preseason before their Cup win, the 2009 Blackhawks lost to the Zurich Lions from a European league. That's the best team in the NHL losing to a team from a league lower than the KHL. (And yes, Toews, Kane, Sharp, Keith, Seabrook, Campbell all played.)

Bringing this back to another posters comment “teams have played outside the league before and nobody cared about the result,” a meaningless preseason game can get a wild range of performances from their players, I doubt the players really give a crap about being better than another league

The real test would be to drop a team from one league into an entire season of another, with time to adjust to ice (and even then, could affect things) and actually feel some sort of impact to their results, get invested etc

Oh sure, I'd agree with this. The fans here in NA never cared much about these Victoria Cup type games, and you can argue the players don't care much either.

Plus you can add travel issues into that. If the NHL team has to fly all the way to Russia then play, will they be in peak form? That would certainly affect the result.

But my point stands. They have played before. And the NHL team is not an automatic win, let alone a guaranteed blow out. It's a tried and proven fact.

Why would KHL agree to that

I highly doubt Chicago was trying as they would dummy Zurich. Rangers lost 7-0 to Frolunda a few years ago, didn’t mean anything

But the question wasn't how motivated the NHL team would be, how much they would try, or if it means anything. The statement was "the worst NHL team would smash the best KHL team."

Thats categorically incorrect. The KHL team could win, and it's happened before. Fact.

I can't believe so many people are so desperate for excuses about a 10 year old game that they're claiming isn't important. In a discussion about a potential KHL vs NHL game, it's relevant to bring up that its happened before.

Heck, the last international game played by an NHL team was a loss. The Flyers were defeated by Lausanne of the Swiss League 3 years ago.

I’d rather just watch the Olympics. Otherwise I don’t know how the stakes could be raised high enough to make it competitive or interesting.
