Kiryu has jumped the shark to such extent that I'd rather play these last few games first and experience the good times with him only afterwards.

Alan Wake came out last year.

I'd like to play games like Infinite Wealth and FF7 Rebirth but I just don't have enough interest to play 9 other games or play 3 other games and watch a movie in order to understand the story when I have so many other games in my backlog
Sure enough! Could've sworn it was this year for some reason

You don't really need to play the other games in the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series to enjoy Infinite Wealth or any other game in the series.
I'm sure I could still enjoy it, but if I do, I would go back and play other games in the franchise afterward and at that point I might as well have just started with the older entries.

Maybe that’s what I should do. I’ve played Yakuza 0, Kiwami 1 and Kiwami 2 and really loved them. But now I’m at Yakuza 3 and it’s been a slog. Definitely feels dated after those other games and I usually find excuses to play other games while only picking it up occasionally. It would definitely be cool to experience the full story but idk if I have the strength to power through these older ones before getting to the modern ones again.

Also as a RPG fan first and foremost, I really want to try the Like a Dragon games and think I might prefer them to the beat em up combat.

3, 4, and 5 are the only ones still on the old engine and it shows. I finished 3 and decided to skip 4 and 5 so I could play 6 and the recent Kiryu side story (The Man With No Name, or whatever) before IW came out (side story leads into his IW arc).

Kiryu has jumped the shark but the series has always had a soap opera element to it so it doesn't bother me too much.

The two Judgment games are fantastic, especially the second one. I would definitely recommend them.

Looking back at 2024 I realize I don't think I truly beat anything this year. Only dabbled with the new. Played a crap ton of BG3 and a lot of replay of old games.

Frostpunk 2, Tactical Breach Wizards are standout Indies I didn't beat yet. P3R and Like a Dragon are games I love but haven't had time to do more than scratch the surface. I assume I will love Metaphor but haven't started yet.

I have a lot of catch up to do in 2025. Unfortunately for that plan, they decided to drop Civ VII in February....

Yakuza 3 was by far the worst one for me. I liked the unique Okinawa setting that you don't get anywhere else in the series but everything else was very weak.

I liked the fifth game but it's very ambitious as it has 5 playable characters and so many different cities but that makes it a very long game.

Outer World's 2 is coming out a lot sooner than expected. I know Obsidian has 2 or more teams, but I wasn't expecting it and Avowed in the same calendar years.

Some big announcements so far. I wonder what the closer is. Some speculation it's something from Naughty Dog or Sony Santa Monica.

Holy shit both of those trailers look sick. Here's hoping TW4 comes out before 2030 lol

This new Elden Ring game looks strange. It seems to have enemies/assets ripped straight from Dark Souls games combined with some Sekiro-esque movement all in the Elden Ring world.

This feels like something From Software's B-team is making while the real follow-up to Elden Ring is being developed. I'll keep an eye on it, but as of now I'm not too excited about this one. It gives off "Elden Ring sold 25 million copies and corporate is demanding a sequel" vibes.

I sort of agree with what you're saying. At least it is firmly NOT a live service game...

This sounds like it's not even a sequel to Elden Ring. It won't be priced out at $60/$70 either, it'll be the same price as SotET. I'm more excited for TW4 than this for sure but if they're giving us a seamless online multiplayer experience for Elden Ring then that would be pretty cool. If i have to spend 5 minutes f***ing around with furlcalling fingers to play with my friends every time one of us dies then I won't care to play it at all.
