The Basics
[fieldset=How To Join In!]
- Click Here to Log In! (Or if that doesn't work, try here for KiwiIRC or here for qchat instead.)
- Enter in your nickname, then
- Hit Enter or click the "Connect" button.
[/fieldset][fieldset=How To Participate]
Send messages to everyone in the chatroom by typing in the little text box at the bottom of the screen and hitting Enter when you want to send your message.
You can open a private chat conversation to someone in Live Chat by typing the following in the text box and hitting Enter:
/query <nickname>
Replace
<nickname> with the nickname of the person you want to talk to. The chatroom conversation will be (temporarily) hidden, and any messages you send will now be just between you and that person.
There's a row of "buttons" across the top of your chat that you can use to switch between the chatroom and private chat conversations. The first button, "
Status", can usually be safely ignored. The next button, "
#cbj" is the chatroom. Any subsequent buttons are private chat conversations, and they'll be named the same as the person you're having that conversation with. New buttons are created as you open private conversations with people - OR if they open up such conversations with you!
To do an emote action (they look like this: "
* Viqsi demonstrates an emote"), type the following:
/me <action text>
To leave Live Chat (why would you want to?
), type "
/quit" and hit Enter, then close the window.
Have Fun!
[/fieldset][fieldset=The Rules (as set forth by channel owner macserv)]
- Keep it friendly; no personal attacks. Don't be a jerk.
- The channel operators decide who is being a jerk.
- Profanity is permitted, but rule #1 still applies.
- Keep the drama to a minimum. Cliff-jumping is prohibited.
- During gameplay, try to limit the amount of off-topic banter.
- Avoid pasting huge blocks of text into the chat.
[/fieldset][fieldset=The Moderators Would Like You To Know The Following]
- If you're being a jerk (see above), a drama queen, or excessively disruptive, we will warn you.
- If you continue to offend, we will kick you.
- Finally, if necessary, we will ban you.
We genuinely hate having to take any of the above actions, but rest assured, they will be taken when needed.
We've got a good record with our chatters here - in six years, only two guys have had to be banned. Don't be the next! We're all hockey fans here; we exist to have fun, either because of or in spite of what's happening on the ice.
You can put those who annoy you on Ignore. If someone is irritating you but they have not earned a kick or ban from an operator, type
/ignore <annoyance nickname> and they will be blocked from your sight.
Live Chat Is Not On A Delay! Spoilers abound! Watching or listening to the game via an online feed, a Slingbox, or some other similar means - or, in some cases, via a different TV provider - opens you up to the possibility of spoilers. You may see details about the game in the chat (particularly when goals are scored) before you get to see or hear them. This is impossible to police; everybody has different time delays (we've had folks with the same cable provider have different delays), and they can get to up to 30 seconds long or more for some online feeds. If you are on such a delay, and you do not wish to read about the game before you experience it yourself, you may want to look away from the chat while the clock is ticking, and stop by during commercials, time-outs, and intermissions.
Fans Of Other Teams Are Welcomed. We do not consider merely being a member of another fanbase to be an inherently bad thing (misguided, perhaps, but not bad
). We have a few regulars who are Jackets fans second, and they are bound by the same rules as everyone else. However, this
is primarily a Jackets fan forum, and so we expect such visitors to be upstanding representatives of their teams - refraining from hurling insults, gloating, goading, or otherwise being an irritant. Don't Be A Jerk.
