Boston probably stays on their best behavior tonight - in their ideal world we would knock off Tampa Bay in the 1st round before facing them in the 2nd round. Unless I'm completely misunderstanding this whole re seeding thing

I don't blame my Leafs for being afraid to play the 2 X Champs and try and win their 1st playoff round in 18 years. On paper losing and falling into playing the Bruins is a better odds of success.

Either playing Conn Smythe reigning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy or facing rookie goalie Jeremy Swayman and journeyman Linus Ullmark instead is a big difference, with Campbell a closer match to the later pair.

Dressing their best lineup to attempt to secure a TB matchup sends a different message, IMO

Leafs are essentially allowing their opposition to control the outcome, and assisting Boston the most in the process is my POV, while playing it safe to avoid a key injury to a top player via resting decisions.

Whichever of Boston or Tampa ends up in the wildcard would end up on the other side of the bracket. Wouldn't be able to see them until potentially the 3rd round. Winner of our series plays the winner of the Florida series.

Also explains why the same trolls are always invading our boards
What a damn shame that Riffle fella threw in the towel so early. After having over 1K posts in under a month, he literally hasn't shown his face around here since the Leafs secured home ice and Matthews potted 60.

Boston would avoid all Atlantic teams till the ECF if they lose tonight.

Their road goes through Carolina and then winner of NY/PIT. A much easier road than going through Atlantic.

It's funny how that works right?

Must be the post concussion syndrome again

Have you seen the standings?

A Boston win and TB loss today makes the Bruins the Leafs 1st round opponent.

So when the Leafs intentionally rest their top players in a game, paving the road for a Bruins win, that could have them avoid TB what should one's first thought be? :wg:

Leafs aren't preparing to play the Lightning, they're hoping to draw the Bruins instead.
My first thought is resting the top players and preventing injury. That's actually my only thought on it the team has to play whoever and the best teams to make it deep so it shouldn't matter.
Stay healthy play hard is all that matters
:dunno:

It's crazy how every single supposed neutral fan here and on reddit really wanted Matthews to be stuck a 58 goals lol.

We knew Matthews was never going to get any less than 60 this year and if he played all 82, he probably would have ended up with 70. There is always next season for that though.

100% willing to wager money that Matthews if healthy is hitting 60 minimum next season as well and becomes the first player in the 21st century to have 2 60+ seasons.

I’m fairly certain everyone would choose the metro leg of the bracket vs the Atlantic. The rangers hurricanes and pens are nice teams, but they’re not close to the Gauntlet on our side of things.

Are you being intentionally obtuse?

The Leafs announced the players that would rest BEFORE Bruins beat Buffalo and Tampa lost to Columbus.
