I don't blame my Leafs for being afraid to play the 2 X Champs and try and win their 1st playoff round in 18 years. On paper losing and falling into playing the Bruins is a better odds of success.

Either playing Conn Smythe reigning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy or facing rookie goalie Jeremy Swayman and journeyman Linus Ullmark instead is a big difference.

Dressing their best lineup to attempt to secure a TB matchup sends a different message, IMO

Leafs are essentially allowing their opposition to control the outcome, and assisting Boston the most in the process is my POV.
You are so ridiculously far off the mark with this take....I suppose it shouldn't be a surprise though. Here is a hint, the Leafs announced their players as out before they even knew if this game would mean anything at all. They aren't running from anything. Figure it out.

another friday night home game
very weird
what on earth is bettman thinking ?

It’s almost like someone said ‘Gary, for the lulz this squirrel we’ve hooked to electrodes should make the schedule!’

Last Monday: one nothing game, CHI vs PHI.
The next night: 13 games.

Leafs April 2022:

4/4 @ TBL
4/5 @ FLA

4/21 @ TBL again.
4/23 @ FLA once more.

I know Covid messed a few things up, but only six immediate Leafs games were postponed, as well as several a few weeks later.

You could start the season on the first Saturday of October and end it April 8-15th, and there’s still Xmas and All Star breaks, with no need to derp around with ‘bye weeks’ because they’re already baked in.

Simply have every team…play nine games every three weeks, never more than four in a week.

Some do a 4-3-2, some do 3-3-3, maybe a few teams get stiffed with a 4-1-4 or whatever, you can change it every year, just stick to that 9 in 21 format and there’s enough numbers to go around.

Suppose the Leafs run a 3-2-4, let’s look at that in November of this year:

11/6
11/8
11/12

11/14
11/15
11/17
11/19

11/22
11/24

Next game no earlier than 11/28, let’s give Ottawa the 4-1-4 in the same period:

11/6
11/9
11/11
11/12

11/17

11/20
11/21
11/23
11/25

Next no earlier than 11/28

Arena availability is an issue, but these organizations have hundreds of people working the logistics end, there has to be a less stupid way.

The line up has absolutely nothing to do with matchups. It has everything to do with minimizing injury and providing rest after a grueling two months of games every other night.

Totally. The load management would be happening against any team tonight. It has nothing to do with the fact that they're playing Boston.

I expect both teams are going to play to win. I'd bet almost anything that it'll be a close game.

Given Matthews was recently injured for a few games really discredits this crazy claim that they’re sending a message that they don’t want to face Tampa.

It means they’re prioritizing key players health prior to the playoffs which start quickly on Monday.

I have no idea why they decided to end this year's schedule on a Friday, but the loss of Saturday home games has nothing to do with Bettman. It goes back to the 90s under Cliff Fletcher when the Leafs agreed to give up some of those home games in order to avoid excessive back-to-backs. Back in the 70s and 80s, the Leafs regularly played around 20 Saturday home games. This season they played 10.

It’s insane to me that someone who has such clown like opinions of the club is a moderator around here

And what do you say, Dear Mod, about both BOS and TB clearly icing lineups intending to lose tonight to avoid our Leafs in round 1 and face the Canes instead?

Scared Bruins trying to lose to avoid the mighty leafs on round 1.
I don't think it's that anyone's scared - it's more so there is no easy first round match-up and all opponents are equally to be respected. It's better to look out for health than try to fight for a match-up that might make no difference.

I wouldn't be surprised if any one of the 8 teams made it past the first round.

We keep saying we want the bruins over tampa, but we're forgetting they have one of the best shutdown centers in the game and elite goaltending coming

There's no way anyone is saying Carolina is easier than the Leafs - theyre both hard matchups

Have you seen the standings?

A Boston win and TB loss today makes the Bruins the Leafs 1st round opponent.

So when the Leafs intentionally rest their top players in a game, paving the road for a Bruins win, that could have them avoid TB what should one's first thought be? :wg:

Leafs aren't preparing to play the Lightning, they're hoping to draw the Bruins instead.
Or...just a thought. Maybe they realized they already have 2nd place in the division completely secured and decided hey why risk injury playing against Boston in a meaningless game, when Matthews already missed time due to injury as did Campbell.

They already announced they were resting players before Tampa and Boston even played last night.

Like how f***ing obvious is it that your intent with this post is an attempt to get a rise out of some posters.
