I'm not afraid to admit I'm more fearful of playing Tampa than Boston. Probably can't speak for the Leafs but I'm sure they have a preference and their actions make it appear its Boston.

Goalie Vas scares me, as he is a proven money goalie in the playoffs posting shutout in 5 straight series in the deciding game and could easily do to our Leafs what Carey Price did last year.

While having Bergeron shutting down Matthews is also a pick your poison outcome, but its a much more even matchup when it comes to the goalie comparisons in the series.

Until someones does it the 2 X Champs are still the toughest opponent and team to beat on the road to the Cup.

If Tampa wins tonight its a moot point and bring on the Champs. !!!
I have no idea what the team or the organization may have done to give anybody the impression they have a preferred opponent. I would suspect they have a shared goal of winning it all, and fear wouldn't and couldn't have a place in that at all.

Kerfoot our number one centre and Nylander our number one winger. Takes me back to the age of Bozak and Kessel.

And of course we're facing Boston

That is true, and its not uncommon in sports not just hockey to rest your starters in a mean nothing game prior to the playoffs. Happens all the time when outcomes are predetermined prior. .

However benching your best players in a game that determines your precise opponent in a direct matchup is not standard operating practice.

Winning brings on the stronger and defending Champs and losing increases your odds of drawing an easier and better matchup.

Our Leafs haven't won a playoff round in 18 years, so I'm okay with potentially losing\throwing this game by benching key players, with the end justifying the means of increasing the odds of ending that streak. I know lt might come across as self serving my own best interest, but I just want our Leafs to finally win a playoff series again. Not risking key injuries in the process only benefits the interest further but the actual opponent still the higher priority.

Being afraid to play players for fear of potential injury risk is a passive not aggressive way to approach getting ready for the playoffs. IMO
I understand your point of view and as a fan of the team I share it. I just don't think that's why they are doing it, primarily because the message it would send to the players is, "we don't think you can beat team X"
The mind set should be it doesn't matter who because we can and will beat them all.
Also if the management had the same idea as you I doubt they would approach the players and ask them if they want to play, to pad their stats, Marner, or play a complete season, Rielly. IMHO if the management team wanted to arrange the "easier" match up, they would simply have made the decision to sit the player and cite the "avoiding injury" catch phrase.
So all that said, I agree with your thoughts but I don't think that the organization is doing it for those reasons

The only reason I'd prefer to see Boston against Toronto in the playoffs is for pure storyline reasons. Getting past their demons, a form of retribution and they are a much better team all around versus a different looking Toronto team from years past.

Toronto losing tonight is fine by me. Them winning is also fine by me.

I just want the playoffs to start. I'd prefer Boston over Tampa but I just want to know who we face so I can start hating them a bit more than I already do.

Do you have Boston's starting line-up for tonight?

Boston played and won last night so this is a back to back game, prior to a playoff start series next week, so resting a few vets makes sense in that regard..

The NHL and the schedule makers must be ripping their hair out.

They create a schedule that pits Boston vs Toronto in game #82 in hopes its a pivotal mean everything game to decide playoff seeding and opponents that couldn't have done a better job to create suspense and intrigue.

Only to find out both teams make a mockery of it and play their AHL teams instead.

Up to Tuesday the Leafs had played 9 games in 14 days so the similar logic applies.

Why do people make burner accounts to troll? Are they just unhappy in their life and this cheers them up? I don’t get making a fake account to get people all angry. Is your life so unhappy you need to go to these measures to cheer yourself up? For all you trolls reading I would appreciate a response back.

I don't blame my Leafs for being afraid to play the 2 X Champs and try and win their 1st playoff round in 18 years. On paper losing and falling into playing the Bruins is a better odds of success.

Either playing Conn Smythe reigning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy or facing rookie goalie Jeremy Swayman and journeyman Linus Ullmark instead is a big difference, with Campbell a closer match to the later pair.

Dressing their best lineup to attempt to secure a TB matchup sends a different message, IMO

Leafs are essentially allowing their opposition to control the outcome, and assisting Boston the most in the process is my POV, while playing it safe to avoid a key injury to a top player via resting decisions.

If Cassidy doesn't sit some of his best guys, I'd be shocked.
