Well, Neal Pionk is embarrassed that we didn't make the playoffs with the team we have. Geez, maybe ask the fans how we feel? I'm sure many of us can tell the Jets our opinions on that subject... Anyway, with only three games left, Winnipeg faces the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night. The Jets have a record of 36-32-11 and are coming off an inspired 4-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche. Sure, the Avs were missing players but so were the Jets, a number of them have been MIA all season. It's funny how they show up now when it doesn't matter... The Flyers, on the other hand, have been out of the playoff picture for quite some time, with a record of 25-44-11, they sit twenty-ninth in the league, just ten points ahead of the lowly Montreal Canadiens. Philadelphia is coming off of a 3-1 loss at the hands of the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday, and are 3-7-0 in their last ten games. The last time these two clubs met was back on February 1st, 2022, when the Flyers beat the Jets 3-1 back in Philly. Hopefully with nothing to lose, Winnipeg has another inspired game... We can only hope!
Over the years, the one thing I think we have all learned is that Philadelphia is just one tough town. They seem to take pride in it...
It all starts with the Broad Street Bullies, the Flyers teams from the 1970s. They were probably one of the toughest teams in the league, and to play them meant certain pain...
In 1976, a new kind of toughness came out of Philadelphia in the form of Rocky Balboa, who didn't know the meaning of quit (unlike our current Jets)...
In honour of the city's toughness, they have a ToughMudder Philly competition, where participants race through a nine mile, thirty obstacle, course.
By participating, you get a free t-shirt and headband, and when you cross the finish line, you get a free beer! Where do I sign up... Philadelphia is also home to another tough Oscar winner...
and it's not like he hasn't done it before...
I wonder where he learned this rough stuff from?
And that gets us to one of the toughest, scariest mascots in the entire NHL....Gritty! I mean if you were a kid, wouldn't you be frightened by the offspring of Animal from the Muppets and Youpii?
But in Philadelphia, even the kids are tough and love Gritty...
As scary as he is, how can you not love this guy?
Let's show Philly how tough we are in Winnipeg by driving down any street right now at full speed...
