Big Game Story: The Los Angeles Kings are 13-1-4 in their past 18 games against the Edmonton Oilers, including wins in their first two games in 2013-14. Martin Jones had a 24-save shutout Dec. 17 at Staples Center. Los Angeles will look to make it seven straight wins, six since the NHL season resumed after the 2014 Sochi Olympics. The Kings endured a rough stretch prior to the Olympics, going 1-8-1, but have since rediscovered their knack for winning close games. The Kings have used that run to solidify their hold on third place in the Pacific Division; they are nine points ahead of the Phoenix Coyotes for the final automatic Stanley Cup Playoff position. The Oilers have won two straight but remain in 14th place in the Western Conference, five points behind the Calgary Flames. GO KINGS GO !!!

NOTE : Regarding LARGE SIZE IMAGES / YELLOW RE-SIZE IMAGE BARS ABOVE PICS, let me offer up one nice little suggestion ...
This will get rid of those pesky yellow resize bars over the top of some larger pictures ... as they annoy the hell out of me and maybe they do you also ?
- Go into/click on your "USER CP" {control Panel} up top left in the red bars
- on the left under 'Settings & Options' click on "Edit Options"
- scroll down to 'Thread Display Options', and then 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- click on the 'Drop Down List Box' over on the Right of 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- select it to "KEEP ORIGINAL SIZE"
- SAVE your selections !
There ... now don't that look MUCH BETTER

Quick question guys: is Gaborik really being deployed on the left wing?

He's a guy who is a career RW. Like Iginla last year with the Pens, I don't think he's a guy who can switch sides easily at all.

Kings Hockey!!!!

Uptempo and no bot 6 grinders in the top 6!!! Who'd have thought?

Longest win streak of the year!!!

We hope so because it makes our lines perfect if so. He looked right at home last game, but we will see soon. If not, we can always flip brown back I suppose

GKG, keep it rolling--I actually expect a low scorin game as the professor comes to play!

I know how Daryl likes to roll with his starting goalie, but hoping that Jones gets one of these next to starts, not because Quick can't handle it, but to keep any rust out of Jones' game.

2nd worst team in the league starting Ben Scrivens against us? LoL, a recipe for disaster... :P

Just get the win! GO KINGS!

Him playing LW will lead to better team results possibly at the expense of his personal results. It allows for a very solid Top-9; even if he is not as good at LW, it would be hard to be so terrible as to bring down the possession games of Kopitar/Williams.

Get this done. :D

If there was such a thing as kicking too much ass this dude would be guilty of it.

So since the break, the Kings have a 3.2 G/game and are shooting at 12%. They also have a 1.4 goals against per game.

Is there a correlation between these numbers and bot 6 grinders, with the exception of Nolan playing one game at 2LW mostly being kept to the bot 6? Also 3rd line seem seems to be producing with Lewis centering the 4th.

The Kings are pushing the puck up the ice faster putting more pressure on other teams D, instead of taking time and allowing other teams defenses to get set. Did that lead to a feeling of skating uphill. I remember Sutter calling out they guys for not driving to the net. The next game Carter (after slow breakouts) tried to go 1 on 3 the whole night going to the net.

Really are these simple changes all that caused a team that's hanging around the league worst in scoring to jump to the top?

Yes. An unsustainably low shooting percentage was bound to come back nearer the average regardless. During the slump, they were shooting HALF of the all-time Lowest shooting percentage in NHL history in addition to absolute crap raining on them (scheduling, out of play pucks scoring, etc.) throw some other little tweaks into the mix and it's no shock

Das Horn!

I think Jones starts against calgary. It is a well known fact that Quick is garbage in Back to backs

Do number of posts or crossbars count? I've never heard so many clangs in consecutive games in my life.

God so true. But officially they don't count as all those posts don't even count on shots in goal so our unsustainably low shooting percentage was actually worse!
