#23 living his best life out there night in night out with 16:32 of puke yesterday
It’s surreal how much pushback I got in the summer for saying not buying out Hamonic was a huge mistake. When we miss the playoffs by a few points this will be a pretty easy one to point out as a critical error. The “he’ll basically just be a player-coach, or “he’s just a 7th D he’ll never play” people must feel pretty dumb now.

I don’t think you need to buy out the player to avoid making bad roster decisions.

Hamonic isn’t that bad as a 7.

The fact he got a much larger role than that makes me question the coaching decisions far more than the decision to not buy out Hamonic.

Green playing him over JBD and Matinpalo is a different argument than is it worth buying out his contract (which btw we probably couldn't do since he was getting work done on his knee which means he probably wasn't medically cleared and ineligible for a buyout anyways).

Buying him out meant about 730k in cap savings this year, which immediately gets eaten up by having to go out and find a different 7th Dman (who knows if they'd be any better), and then we're stuck with a 360k cap penalty next year.

I mean, would we really be better off having Matinpalo or Guenette up all year with JBD getting Hamonic's mins? Probably not tbh, at least not to any significant degree.

Any amount of NHL games for Hamonic, in any role, is bad.

I can’t beleive kleven laid a huge tone setting hit and then immediately got rocked in a fight and had to leave the game.

That is the most Sens thing I have ever seen.

Yes he is that bad as a seven every time he comes in he plays poorly

Hamonic is not a good defender at this stage. But, I don’t think he’s at or near the top of the list of problems with the team. I’d rank lack of scoring way higher.

I can believe a big guys like him, renewing to distribute big hit. Have never learn how to fight
I don't really get it either, but you see it fairly often with these college boys.

It'll be interesting to see how he reacts when he's back playing again. The word is now out that he can't defend himself. He may never hit anybody again.

I think the NMC was the bigger issue than the money.

It sounds like we're about to trade JBD due to a logjam on D because Hamonic's NMC prevents him from being sent down.

Of course whether Green would send him down at all is a different question. Dude seems to legitimately think he's a capable NHL D.

I'd rather trade JBD than have a 330k cap penalty next year, so I'm not really seeing the issue here.

I'd prefer to the opposite.

I like JBD as insurance for that 3rd pairing RD spot. Him and Matinpalo splitting time there next year should be just fine.
