After the last numerous years, Sens fans have been conditioned to think that 4th liners are just filler who don't do anything and that's the way it is.

Then you turn on a Vegas game and see Keegan Kolesar and Nic Roy on the 4th line, or see Dallas play and say "oh look Mavrik Bourque is on their 4th line"...
This is exactly it. We’ve had such horrendous depth for so long that we’re appreciative of guys who don’t actively hurt us instead of looking for guys who actually contribute.

I love how players on this team go from game-time decisions to missing a month of hockey.

Genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t see Brady and Pinto for another 2 weeks.

You can now expect Tyler Kleven to be out 5 weeks.

Honestly goaltending is not the problem, the problem with this team is that we can't score!!! Even when we have a healthy lineup we have problem scoring goals on a regular basis. Look at Detroit they're goaltenders suck but they're outscoring their deficiency in net. It's hard to win hockey games when you score 1 or 2 goals per game.

Detroit's goaltending has been one of their strong spots... Also Detroit sucks scoring 5on5 as well. You're thinking of Columbus.

Cousins and Gregor are fine relative to their salaries.

I thought I saw advanced stats that showed that Gregor is not very good at helping his 5 man unite outplay or outscore the opponents 5 man units? He was just fast, but not accomplishing anything positive..

Not sure if that would be "fine" but actually "bad"

He is not GM material. Should have hired a real one. We did it to ourselves again. Gregor, Jensen, Cousins are fine, but that’s where his transactions have tipped out

Gregor has not been successful here. I would not classify that as fine or good signing.

People are being deceived because he's fast and were slow, but he's not a productive or useful player. His speed tricks people into thinking he's accomplishing things on the ice.

Amadio is not our problem, at all. He's a good player. Our problem is our top 6 haven't scored in months and our D don't generate much either.
Amadio provides zero depth scoring, and at 2.6 mil, you would hope he occasionally provides depth scoring on the third line.

The lack of offensive depth is a big concern for this team. He's part of that depth scoring problem.

Travis Green being 'hopeful' somebody can play has become quite a meme in Sens land!

Feels like somebody could be shot in the head, bleeding out and Green would say they're a possibility to play on the weekend.
What did they say in the game - lower body injury or something? Lowry nailed him a few times with some good punches, so I would have guessed concussion.

We’re now -4 in goal differential, it says a lot now.

We’ve also scored 161 goals, only beating NYI (in the East) who have 156.

He is & he's big & he's really tough, we have nobody that can deal with this, Kleven is a rookie & shouldn't have to deal with it, neither should Brady. We need a Carkner or Neil, McCaron from Nashville could be available & could be a cheap option & he can play & he would fill a role that we don't have at the moment.
Olivier is the ultimate deterrent for the Lowrys of this world but probably CLB re-sign him

I know it’s bleak now and hard to have faith at this point while marred in a losing skid. The effort was there by most tonight but missing our best offensive players we aren’t going to score enough and especially against top teams like WPG, FLA or even a TB for that matter. Against the Habs Saturday I was fuming as several players seemingly still had their heads in the sand.

Absolutely need to find a way to beat SJ Saturday and help get things back on track. Following the trade deadline there’s a big stretch coming where we play NYR, Bos and Det at home. Those are the games we need to find a way to win. Go into those with a healthier forward crew and hopefully a locked in Ullmark by then and I think we make some headway and a push in the right direction in March.
They are 6-18-6 away from home and 1-7-2 in their last 10
If we can't win on Saturday you can forget about the PO

I can't disagree.

Also next Wednesday's road game in Chicago. Chicago is another "house of horrors" for Sens squads of the modern day. I seemed to recall it being bad so since we don't play them often I looked it up. We haven't won in the building in 7 years and Sens teams have a 3-12 record in Chicago going back as far as when ties were eliminated. Absolutely need those two points in that one.

Yup agreed with this. Lose to San Jose on Saturday, then staois should have his Stevie Y moment when the red wings lost twice to the Sens and acknowledged his team just wasn’t ready for the playoffs

Tkachuk/norris/pinto can’t be crutches for these guys, need the rest of the team to step up and show some fight in their absence

Gregor has 6pts in 36 games and is -10.

Nobody is saying he’s can’t be replaced but he’s making just over league minimum.

I think he’s fine as a 4th liner.

Noah Gregor is beyond useless, man. Doesn't produce offense, doesn't defend or play PK, not a faceoff specialist, not a feared hitter, doesn't fight, absolutely brutal underlying metrics. Stat models have him as one of the worst forwards to play in the NHL this season.

He is a clear downgrade from Parker Kelly.

Agree with this.

I just don’t get pointing out the almost league minimum guy when the contributions of others, relative to salary, are far worse and more detrimental.

850,000$ veteran 4th liners are by definitely replacement level.
