Y’all thought I was kidding

He's good at scoring lots of points and he's good at finishing on the powerplay. We need a bit more than that down the middle. Strome also only does offense. We don't have a matchup, forechecking center.

Yeah, only minor things like scoring lots of points and being good on the PP. Excuse me. He also PK's pretty well and does play more defense than our other centers.

Other flaws and issues aside, I feel like the Islanders are a horrible match-up for this squad.

But, it also shows some of what playoff hockey feels like.
Then I think this is a problem with roster make up and coaching strategy that both need to be addressed. The teams that win can beat any team in the league on any given day. Otherwise every team can just play the same style against us and win.

So you’re ignoring facts that don’t validate your opinion? Got it. Thanks. If my grandma had a penis she’d be my grandpa. This isn’t last years east. We’re 13th in the league. We’re better than 18 other teams statistically which last I checked was how the standings are determined.
I am posting in the GDT, you damn right I am going to ignore the facts that don't validate my opinion.

This team does not make the playoffs if there was the Metro/Atlantic divisions like last year. I am not basing that off this clusterf*** division setup that they have this year, but how the team plays against other good teams. They are 500 AT BEST (which is where they are even now). They might make it in next year if one of the teams ahead of them falls off.

For years we have been wishing for a real 1c and now that we actually have a ppg top 10 center all we do is bitch and moan. We dont deserve good things.

The tough thing is that Howden had a lot of really strong traits in juniors. He had the makings of a really solid NHL career.

Some of those traits didn’t cross over. But I truly think Quinn hasn’t done him any favors. He was stapled to the fourth line the moment he started his career.

Laf is a perfect example of what confidence can do to a player. Has Howden ever earned more ice time or favorable line mates? Definitely not. But there’s a chicken or the egg debate here. Could he have played better in he got a more favorable position early on?

Howden hasn’t had any confidence in 2 calendar years.

5 more years of hockey under Quinn for Howden, he's going to regress back into a single cell bacteria that can only survive in horse piss.

Scoring is important but we have plenty of scoring. When we play teams with a system that shut down the globetrotters shit, we barely look like an NHL team. Zibanejad just isn't the all-around ace some Rangers fans make him out to be. He's bang average at even strength on both sides of the puck. When your best center is a special teams player, you might need a center.

You might be on to something here...I like where this is going.

Zibanejad is the ultimate slow moving train wreck...the “who could have seen this coming” takes from Brooks, Carp, et al in ~4 years write themselves.
It would be a 2008 Rangers move to sign him long-term. I really hope they are smart enough to avoid it. We need our 1C to be a line driver, not just someone who is able to capitalize on the PP. Look back at all of the cup winning teams of the last decade or more and their top center was someone who controlled play.

All jokes aside, the Rangers are missing a top forward and top defenseman tonight. That plus the fact that the Islanders are a tough matchup for them, this game was always going to be an uphill battle. Maybe they forge a comeback. But a win tonight was always going to be a major accomplishment.

Yup. They score lots of goals from the circles. Against this team, they need to go under the hash marks and get some dirty rebounds.
whoever said this shit is an indictment on the coaching staff needs to realize professional players getting paid hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars who have also played this team repeatedly this season alone can't be getting f***ing Alzheimer's and being all doe-eyed "golly gosh I guess we have to go to some scary areas of the ice and maybe apply our bodies to their bodies with some speed and momentum".

I'm pretty sure the coaching staff did not lead them astray in the scouting report here, the Rangers are well aware, they're just not gonna sack up enough to combat it because that's not who they are. Sorrynotsorry.

Zibanejad isn’t the problem, but I’d love to have a big defensively responsible 2C who isn’t afraid to go to the dirty areas to score garbage goals. Nothing against Strome, he’s more than earned his $, but a 2C like that would make a big difference.

He’s very overrated among our fans in terms of 2 way play. Back check on the first goal tonight is a case in point.

He depends a lot on his legs and shot. He’s not the best natural athlete. All concerning from an aging perspective.

You know it's dire straights when the MSG GO app lets your know it's the beginning of the period and cites NYR outhitting NYI
