They need to put their heads down and grind with the Isles. You'll seee once again the fourth line will be the only line who will show up in this game. I hope I'm wrong.Even Blackwell's been picking up Panarin's and Strome's soft buttery style. Early in the period, he got the puck behind the net, had room to just go directly to the net, and instead he goes high up the zone.

Yeah, I don’t feel like it’s an effort issue tonight. I just don’t think this team plays a system that can beat a defensively responsible structured team.

That period was a major indictment in the coaching staff or veteran players, potentially both.

Just beyond unacceptable.
As I've said before, I'd be perfectly fine with cycling out some of the vets.

Zibanejad just isn't a star and he's gonna get star money because of his offensive flair.

I think our centers being underwhelming to bad at even strength is why we don't match up with the tighter teams.

So then what is your opinion of possibly acquiring Eichel?

I have watched Libor Hajek for a long time now and I still don’t know what he is good at. Can he defend? No. Can he create chances in the offensive zone? No. Can he skate well? No. Does he win a lot of physical battles? Not really. What does he offer, and what does the management see in him?

He is a good skater, it's just that this is his only asset.

He's been a PPG player for 3 years now. Last year he lead the league in goals per game played and he was outstanding. He had a shitty first 15-20 games. Other than that he's been pretty damn good for us.

Interested to know what we can get for Zibanejad.

He's good at scoring lots of points and he's good at finishing on the powerplay. We need a bit more than that down the middle. Strome also only does offense. We don't have a matchup, forechecking center.

Our top scorers (all in the Top 35 in the league) look like crap against this kind of hockey. All 5 of them. POolBoy has a night off so he cannotbe blamed.Iguess

Other flaws and issues aside, I feel like the Islanders are a horrible match-up for this squad.

But, it also shows some of what playoff hockey feels like.

Like I said Rangers management needs to improve their PRO hockey scouts (NHL AHL Europe pro leagues pro players) as far as they need to improve their Junior scouts. How did anyone think Howden is an NHL player must be smoking crack.

The tough thing is that Howden had a lot of really strong traits in juniors. He had the makings of a really solid NHL career.

Some of those traits didn’t cross over. But I truly think Quinn hasn’t done him any favors. He was stapled to the fourth line the moment he started his career.

Laf is a perfect example of what confidence can do to a player. Has Howden ever earned more ice time or favorable line mates? Definitely not. But there’s a chicken or the egg debate here. Could he have played better in he got a more favorable position early on?

Howden hasn’t had any confidence in 2 calendar years.

Zibanejad is the ultimate slow moving train wreck...the “who could have seen this coming” takes from Brooks, Carp, et al in ~4 years write themselves.

Yup. They score lots of goals from the circles. Against this team, they need to go under the hash marks and get some dirty rebounds.

I had a post and my stupid browser on my phone refreshed automatically and I lost what I typed lol

Anyways - we lack anyone on the roster to answer the bell in the physical games. I’m not talking fighting. Our top players disappear when things get rough and well - that’s what playoff hockey is.

If I were Trotz, and I’m sure he’ll do this anyways, I would have that 4th line out there playing heavy shifts and laying major body on our guys. No one is going to return the favour.

When your best line is your 4th line it’s not a good sign. The team needs to wake up and the isles right now are in their comfort zone. They love games like this.
