Pre-Game Talk: Game 5: Blues vs. Hawks

Highly doubtful. Nobody should have realistically expected to sweep the Hawks.

I didn't expect it at all.... your gonna tell me if berglund, sobotka, backes, oshie and tarasenko were at 100% You don't think we'd have won game 3 and 4?

i know tarasenko is playing great but he's not 100% either which is why he's on that list.

We've outplayed them the entire series and deserve to win this series. If one bad bounce in favor of chicago was eliminated fromt he last two games.... it would've been a sweep or atleast 3-1 blues

We aren't dealing in what ifs here. They are the defending cup champs for a reason. We also didn't out play them yesterday. They carried the majority of the play. And for every lucky bounce they've gotten, we've gotten lucky breaks too. You talk about our injured players, but do you really think guys like Toews, Kane and Keith are 100%?

So far it's been a great series. Couple of thoughts:

1. Miller is playing well, but he's not justifying the trade. Elliott had the same record and better numbers after 4 games last year.

2. Our top line needs to do something. Yes, Steen scored a big goal in game 1, but other then that, Steen/Backes/Oshie have zero points in the last 3 games. That's unacceptable. I know Backes got hurt, but those other two guys need to step up.

3. Shatty made a bad play on Kane last night, but overall, he's improved dramatically compared to the last two years. Currently he's our leading scorer, and he's actually been pretty competent in our end.

4. Schwartz and Tarasenko are this team. If we bow out, I wouldn't mind trading Steen/Oshie/Berglund (all three of them) for players who are a little more around Schwartz/Tarasenko's age, and building this team around them.

I agree we have to win game 5. I firmly believe Hawks will win at home - game 6 is likely theirs.
If Blues lose game 5, I would bet everything I got that the series is over for the Blues and it's another first round exit.

I'm nitpicking here, but Backes can't be included on the list of players not performing. He's missed the last two games. Also, trading Steen and Oshie is a terrible idea. Steen's been snakebitten but he's played fine. I'm convinced Oshie is still hurt. They are still very good players.

The best, and most obvious option is park Tarasenko in the high slot and feed him all power play, and keep him out there for at least half of every pp. Why Hitch refuses to do this I have no idea. Call me crazy but I think we need to flip our first and second lines. Tarasenko needs to be playing top line minutes right now. There's no excuse for him not to be. He's been our best offensive threat by far.

We've gotta win tomorrow that's all there is to it. Also, pay Schwartz and Frank whatever they want this off-season.

Reason to like Miller, he was snippy with the media. Anyone who wants to be snippy with Korac is fine with me.

Chicago have players with great mentality, we don't. They are down one goal with 4 mins to go, all pressure on them and they still dictate the play and score at will while we are death scared. Shattenkirks defensive play at Kanes goal is so extremely stupid, I dont understand what the hell he was thinking, Kane was skating slowly and wasnt even a threat at the first place, Shattenkirks dumb decision made him dangerous.

I think we'll end up losing this series, just like we lost the LA series last year. I had that feeling even when we were up 2-0, I dont trust this group. Honestly we should be glad we even won those 2 games at home scoring late goals.

With Backes in I feel we have a chance to take a 3-2 lead. But in the end I can't see this team beat the Hawks in 2 out of those 3 remaining games. They are too skilled and have a great mentality while our players are scared as ****. Even if we win the next at home, Hawks will tie it in Chicago and than celebrate in our building.

Prove me wrong, Blues!

If you take the long view this is the best era of Blues hockey.

The team is on the rise with the core set for the next five years. This team can win a Cup right now, but probably needs a little more talent.

Next year with Miller and Allen in the nets and Jaskin and Rattie added to the forwards, I think the final pieces of the puzzle will be in place. Tarasenko and Schwartz will go down as all-time Blues stars and there are several young defensemen working their way to St. Louis.

As for right now - it's a great series with the hated rival Hawks and the teams are evenly matched.

I hope the Blues win - but I won't be discouraged if they don't. There are many bright days ahead.

This is a joke right? You remember games 1 and 2? I'd say those late comebacks showed this team has the same sort of contender mentality of the Hawks. We even saw it last night before ultimately losing. This team has shown the ability to counter punch what the Hawks have thrown at us. This is a tight series, it shouldn't be a surprise that we're even headed into game 5.

I really do love what I've seen from this team through 4 games, and if we find a way to survive this series we'll roll through Colorado or Minnesota. I still think we might be in store for something special.
