Hughes is NJDs best player and there is more than an ocean between him and and Kakko. What is the difference? Kakko has been put to learn to play defense for two years and NJ have invested in Hughes. It pays off. We invest in Blackwood and Strome.

How will Laf look vs Stutzle next season? Ottawa have invested in Stutzle. It pays off with these talents, and it will definitely show next season.

That's the biggest difference, and the reason why Kravtsov looks so good compared to Kakko and Lafreniere. When he moves his legs, he actually moves on the ice. Laf and Kakko, not so much. I bet a lot of this has to do with Kakko and Laf bulking up during the summers, not yet focusing on their skating. I mean many people here reference back to the highlights from Kakko during his draft year. Liiga, WJC, WHC. The difference from that to Kakko now? He is much slower.
