Over the summer, I sent out a crack team of investigators to find out about some of our fellow HFJets posters. What they came back with was quite interesting, and throughout the season, we will look at some of the information they found out.

Today, we will look at the life of one of our more avian posters: @flyingkiwi

FlyingKiwi-GDT1.jpg

Lil' Kiwi started out as a very big egg somewhere in the Tongariro Forest on the North Island of New Zealand...

FlyingKiwi-Egg.jpg

After three months, Lil' Kiwi hatched to proud parents LoKiwi and S'Kiwi...

FlyingKiwi-Hatch.jpg

Right from the start, Lil' Kiwi was always asking questions: Why is the sky blue? Why is the grass green? Is Russell Crowe really a New Zealander? Then one day, Lil' Kiwi saw some friends being able to fly and asked, “why can't I fly”...

FlyingKiwi-Why.jpg

Lil' Kiwi's parents said that Kiwis have very tiny wings and that prevented them from flying. Lil' Kiwi did not like that answer and vowed to fly. Lil' Kiwi studied about aerodynamics and lift...

FlyingKiwi-Study.jpg

Then set out to fly...

FlyingKiwi-Attempt.jpg

By then, Lil' Kiwi was given a new nickname...FlyingKiwi! Lil' Kiwi's friends marvelled at FlyingKiwi's passion for trying to fly, albeit unsuccessful. Attempt...

FlyingKiwi-Attempt2.jpg

after attempt, FlyingKiwi continued to try...

FlyingKiwi-Attempt3.jpg

Until finally FlyingKiwi gave up and bought an airline...

FlyingKiwi-Airline.jpg

Now FlyingKiwi is happy and can fly anywhere...

FlyingKiwi-Happy.jpg

And the rest, they say, is history...

Tonight, the Winnipeg Jets take on the Arizona Coyotes at intimate Mullett Arena in Tempe Arizona at a more reasonable 6:00pm CST start time. The 25-9-2 Jets recently beat the Anaheim Ducks 3-1 to extend their winning streak to five games and are 8-0-2 in their last ten. The Coyotes are fairing quite well and are 19-16-2 on the season but have lost two straight after a 5-1 loss at the hands of the New York Islanders and are currently 6-4 in their last ten games. The season series favours Winnipeg, a 5-3 win in Arizona and a 5-2 win in Manitoba's capital back in November, so the Coyotes will be looking to trying to even the score. Can the "Mentors" continue to be the Jets lucky charms, or will Arizona's warmer climate be the team's undoing? Who will have more fans in attendance for this game, Jets 1.0 or Jets 2.0 (or both)? Will @Stumbledore and @Inanna finally get back to talking hockey? These questions and more were found wandering the Salt Flats just outside of Phoenix, dazed and confused...

Thank you greatly as always @macmaroon, @flyingkiwi is a fantastic addition to our Jets board family!:thumbu:

For some reason I have a good feeling about this one. I think the men come out string for this one!

I always loved those Roadrunner and Coyote cartoons. The Fritz Freleng era was brilliant and the use of operatic music unchallenged, but I always had a soft spot for the Coyote and his terrified expression when his plans hit that painful end. No soft spots tonight for the hockey Coyotes. They may give us the biggest challenge yet on this road trip but we can take them if ignite all our engines.

Maybe this will help.

Kiwi's are incredibly interesting beasts, I'm happy that ours has this page to acknowledge it. Old Chuck Darwin would argue that Kiwis evolved a flightless phenotype to fill a certain ecologic niche. We all can acknowledge that @flyingkiwi certainly is one of our more grounded and effective posters. And, of course, she is always free to reverse evolution and buy her own airline.:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Thanks @macmaroon for another cool GDT, and Lets go Jets! Being at or near the top of the league is a massive achievement and likely incredibly difficult to maintain in the long run. Resembling today's tribute poster, I think this group of players is very grounded and simply focus on each game at hand.

And, paralleling our own @The Blue Baron I'm quite positive that the Jets will take the Dogs to the vets' for a good old fashioned drubbing.

Will the first line do some Harlem Globetrottering tonight folks? Stay tuned, I would predict the chances are exceedingly high on:

- an Ehlers circle-at-will-sense-the-weakness seeing eye goal
- a Schuffles double pop-mouth-guard-side-chew, pirouette, one-timed slice of iced heaven
- a Lardo short-wall-madness dig-and-shrug, deft pass-to-slot-bit-of-dark-chocolate hoe down

You could probably publish this GDT as a children's book, seriously!

Two points, or not two points: that is the question:
Shall the Jets’first line globetrot and pummel
The slings and arrows of a fossilized Schmaltzy forecheck,
Or rather take arms against Vejmelka’s straw-dog wall,
And by a hail of even- or short-handed shots end him?
Shall Lowry’s virtual second line muzzle these Dogs,
And allow them to score
No more;
And to the Mighty Perfecto we say do the full send
Call again on the insane skill
And inflict cardiac seizures and sundry shocks
Upon thy canine brethren, ‘tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish’d.
Another wins, another game coming from behind is overt greatness,
But to win again; aye -
To slay this dogged squad, to drive them before us,
There’s the rub;
For in that sleep of wins what dreams may come
When the Jets have slipped the bonds of Arizona’s oily coil
Must give us pause.

Out of the three games on the road tonight's will be the toughest, that being said if the Jets show up from the get go and not let the Coyotes hang around they will sweep this trip and come back for a couple of games against the Blue Jackets and Hawks and hopefully more wins after all we have first place overall to protect.

Unfortunately I did not get into public Education for its airline acquisition granting properties.

New Zealand didn't get mamals (save for some bats and dolphins) until the first humans arrived a few hundred years after good ol JC himself walked the earth so a lof of our birds were just chilling on the ground eating bugs and minding their own business.

We also have the world's smallest penguin, kororā :

And largest parrot, kākāpō:

According to legend Kiwi used to be able to fly, but gave up this ability in order to save the forest. This young man tells it beautifully in Maori, with subtitles available in English.

I hear the "Sweet Georgia Brown" music in my head when the Jets get cycling, spinning, weaving with the puck in the offensive zone."

Thanks to @macmaroon for another great GDT and to @flyingkiwi for contributions to these boards!

Coyotes are going to find themselves hungry when the Jets rob them of tonight's 2 points

In the spirit of @kanadalainen , I present the only poetry I remember: an excerpt from Tennyson.

and tho'
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will:
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

May the Jets never yield until the final Victory.
