I think it's a bit of what we seen early in the season from him and our other grinder types (even Howden). When the games are sloppy and lack structure, skill doesn't come out over hard work nearly as easily.

Kreider plays like a Captain for a few games, then goes completely off the radar for a few.

I'm leaning towards that being the reason he isn't captain. Inconsistent, uninterested, sometimes a complete no show. Lethargic like games from time to time.

Especially when the puck is bouncing a lot. You are right. The game gets disorganized and it comes down to effort and a bit of luck.
