Good game.

I didn't know Goodrow was playing until the camera panned on him during a stoppage. He seemed invisible.

I normally don't like dropping of the gloves, but Dellandrea sent a good message.

Was rooting for Macklin's hat trick, but he did put on a show. That kid is fun to watch.

Like the grit of the Sharks in this game.

They still have problems transitioning out of their zone with poor passing.
Poor passing, no pressure on puck carriers, and they eventually wear down to where they're all standing still in a shell hoping to ice the puck and get a change.

Georgiev failed the tank.

It was pretty a similar situation Kevin more a less called them out and said they can be better, and it worked for that game but larionov warned him that bullshit wouldn’t work again
Fortunately for Warsofsky, nobody in the lockerroom has a track record like that to call bullshit on him.

Yet......

I liked Muk's game, much preferred him to Thrun, though it's only one game. There were some NHL jitters, but I liked what I saw. Rutta also looked pretty solid- that's definitely a credit to him, but I wonder if Muk's skating helps compliment Rutta better than Thrun.

Celebrini is just incredible. Guy is so fun to watch, plays hockey exactly the way it is supposed to be played. I also totally buy Celebrini through the puck off the defender to himself. While watching live I immediately thought, was that intentional? The pass was awfully slow, so either he miss-hit and got super lucky, or it was intentional.

We do miss Smith's creativity with him out of the line-up. System and commitment looks pretty good. PP has largely looked horrible, but I liked the one goal came from Celebrini really asserting himself.

I don't think it was intentional - the higher probability play there is to just shoot - but he has such good hands and reaction time that he made it look easy to adapt to the blocked pass.

Yeah, I think it’s very, very hard to tell when he’s going to shoot and where he’s going to shoot it and he’s VERY accurate. When he’s skating around the zone with the puck, he’s so deceptive it’s genuinely hard to figure out what he’s going to do next. His passing is really good too.

It’s like someone maxed out a player they made up in EA. Even the name - I mean, Macklin Celebrini? What is that?!

Melker did kinda suck most of the time though.

You f***ing take that back.

I never did that. I maxed out players that EA made up. Back in the early-mid 2000s before the national teams had any real players or could use anyone real besides NHLers they had made up a bunch of fake players and would shuffle their positions, vitals, and stats around every year or two, but at least left some verisimilitude by having the pbp and arena PA record their names so they would get called out during games. So in order to keep the feeling of having proper, players and not just hearing the audio dance around the names, I would edit those guys and make them into fake rookies.

So my early 00s NHL games included legends like Bulat Idirshev from Kazakhstan, Rob Cane from Great Britain, Stefan Coronel from Ukraine, Ichiro Yoshimura from Japan, Sergei Kapitanov from Belarus (he became my captain, of course :P), and Mariusz Marczak from Poland.

Marczak was fun because I didn't even need to edit his stats at all. He was weird case where he was, in a couple versions of the game, a tiny waterbug forward (like 5'9, 170) whose stats were either 50 or 99 and almost nothing else. So he had no shooting power, but perfect accuracy. No checking ability but max speed and agility. No defensive awareness but maxed offensive awareness and stickhandling. So he was a pure offensive machine because most of the 50 ratings weren't that debilitating

I miss those games with those players. It was fun getting the real World Cup rosters, the Euro Elite Leagues, and eventually I think mostly real rosters for all the included national clubs that had no NHLers or consequential players, but I miss all those fictional guys too. It's why I can still remember their names

Okay and while you were playing those games was there ever a power surge? And if there was… did one of them, a Macklin Celebrini, accidentally appear out of your computer?

It would've been around the time he was born, so yeah there's a chance there was a Weird Science like scenario happening. If the power surge shocked me I could've been knocked out and that would provide a good explanation about why I don't remember anything. and with fictional players abound in those games then there easily could've been a Celebrini on the Italian team.

So in some ways it’s fair to say you’re kind of Celebrini’s dad?

shout out to Martins Vyater, he was a bonafide sniper on Latvia and won a Rocket Richard for my dynasty team. I’ve been meaning to launch up NHL 2005 one of these days to see Eklund’s dad in the Swedish league.

Are you the same Nemesis that published roster update documents back in the day? Those were super helpful on GameFAQs or whatever forum. I remember adding Kai Hospelt and Thomas Greiss to the Sharks from the DEL using that doc.

For reasons beyond my control and about which no one here cares I’ve had a hard time catching many games “in real time” so far this year. I’m hoping that’s going to change going forward. With that being said, I did finally catch up on this one, and:

Celebrini’s the real deal! I can’t remember the last time I’ve been this excited about having someone new in teal!

Both Georgy and Kovalenko made a case for themselves. Let’s hope they keep it up going forward.

Muk looked much better that what we’ve been getting from Thrun (IMHO).

After quite awhile I’m finally starting to look forward to what’s to come in our future. Go Sharks!

You still gaming?

I’m permanently stuck in that era of EA Sports PC games. No idea what is going on nowadays with NHL Ultimate Team or whatever.

I miss Eastside Hockey Manager too. I bet there’s an updated version but it would probably take some work to get it set up.

Sports gaming wise, not so much. I've bought like 1 NHL game in the last 5 years because I haven't had time to play and I haven't liked some of the design and play choices they've gone with (not like HUT or anything, though that is not my bag at all, just the general atrophying of GM/franchise mode and the presentation/commentary/visual aspects) and I got MLB the Show 23 for the Switch at a deep, deep discount a year ago and played a career mode in that for like 6 months until my entire team imploded around me and I found it next to impossible to request/force a trade out other than just playing poorly

Otherwise yeah I still do have a huge backlog of games that I've been working on trying to get through. Lots and lots of old school RPGs, some newer series (like a few of the more recent Assassin's Creed or Red Dead ) the last few Legend of Zelda titles, and some goofier stuff like the Pokemon games. I don't have as much time for console stuff right now so that's why having a Switch is nice because I can play things while I watch the Sharks or whatever.
