"I think we had some Grade-A scoring chances, and…their goalie played well. You see it when this team’s playing really well on the offensive side of the puck, it’s generally not the really pretty goals. A lot of goalies will make that first save. It’s getting around the net and pouncing on those loose pucks, and again, we’re not making it hard on the opposing team.†(On what has to happen to increase scoring) …“Get to the net. Get the pucks there. I mean, we’ve gone through spurts here this year where we’ve scored a lot of goals, and it’s just a result of getting the puck to the net with bodies at the same time. Again, you look at tonight – even the Grade-A scoring chances, there are pucks there that we have to get to. The power play – that’s been a big source of our offense, and tonight I think we maybe had one shot. We’ve got to focus in and look at it as a one-game road trip, and that’s in Chicago. We’re going to Chicago to win a game. We have the group of guys in here to compete each and every night. We’ve just got to get everyone going. Four lines, six defensemen. We’ve never been a successful team having one or two lines through. It’s always been a group effort. So that’s what we’ve got to get back to."

"At this point, I don’t think you really need to look at the standings. You win a couple, you’re in fourth. You lose a couple, you’re down to five, six, seven, even. It’s about us. It’s going to be about our game and the way we perform.†(On whether the team needs a scorer like Jarome Iginla or Marian Gaborik, two players whose names have surfaced in trade rumors) … “Right now, it seems that way. But before these two games, I didn’t think we had trouble scoring. Would it help? For sure. Are we in desperate need of one? I don’t think so, because we have a lot of firepower, or a lot of guys that can score on any given night."

"We had some good quality chances that we missed the net on. You break them out, and you chase the game a little bit more than what you should. I don’t know if we out-chanced them or not. It was pretty close. I wouldn’t say we played bad. We just didn’t find a way to win the game, didn’t find a way to get pucks on net when we had good scoring chances, [and lacked] that bear down mentality to score. Every team’s got good goaltending. This league is all about that and low-scoring games and one-nothing, three-two, two-one, whatever. But the bottom line is we’ve got to be better to score goals and bear dwon more. It’s not like we’re not getting chances…I think we are. But we can work for more chances, number one, and number two, we can bear down when we get those chances."

(On whether the team needs a line shakeup) … “It’s right now Kopi, Brownie, Willie, Jeff, Mike, Lewie and Jarret – that are on a good third line pace for goals – are all having trouble scoring right now. I’m more inclined to listen to what they tell me more than I tell them, right? It’s difficult when you’re just playing to say that you’re going to switch lines up, and it’s going to work. That’s like giving me a map to go to a place I’m not sure where I’m going.†(On the plan with Tyler Toffoli, and whether he may draw back into the lineup soon) … “Same thing when we called him up. We’re playing a lot of games. We’ve got three back-to-back sets in a short period of time. We’re just trying to have guys that can play against certain teams based on what they have, and that was the advantage of being at home, so it’s not based on winning and losing…We were allowed because we had one more roster spot, so we did it with a forward." (On whether the team needs to bring in an offensive player via trade) … “You’re way out of line asking coaches questions like that.â€

Penner's out and Toffoli in. From practice today, Carter skating with the 1st line and Williams at LW on the 2nd w/Richards centering. I get that Sutter is looking for the top 6 to score and a shakeup might work, but putting Carter with Kopi is putting all youir eggs in one basket, having your 2 best scorers on one line makes an easier decision for the Hawks to cover.
But on the otherhand, Richards shoots more when Carter isn't with him, so maybe that will get him going. Hopefully TT will be a bit better protecting his zone and winning the board battles.

I don't mind moving Carter up to the 1st line for a few games. Those are two well balanced lines as long as Toffoli plays well. Brown is having trouble putting the puck in the net and I think Kopi would benefit from having Carter out shooting as well. You've got two great veterans playing with Toffoli, Williams plays the forecheck role very well.

I like Penner, he really looks like he's trying out there, but much like I feel with King, he's not putting the puck in the net. I can't count how many prime chances he's had that he's failed to put in. I love the work ethic but we kind of need more production right now.

i like the idea of carter with kopitar. i think brown needs to be first in on the forecheck on that line. it suits his game better he'll hit more and thus be a more effective player. as far as the second line, i think it will be better on the forecheck with williams. tofolli benefits with two playmakers with richards and williams. im excited to see how these lines work out. too bad for penner he still isnt producing the way he should but i dont wanna see him on the bottom six. i hope when he comes back in the lineup they keep the lines the same (just a penner and tofolli swap)
