I thought Cossa should have had a start by game two of his call-up, but no complaints about how Husso played starting every second day of the three before Buffalo. Eventually it was going to be a "bad" decision to start him, but going with the goalie who is on a roll and having no back-to-backs, over giving a guy his first NHL start is not a crazy call. .It is good though as you say for Cossa to get the first-game butterfles out of the way and to have settled down, making two excellent stops in the SO.

Hard to see more than one goalie being traded IMO. Next year is set with Talbot/Cossa, Cossa getting a good share of the games (30-plus) so long as he holds up his end, possibly more. Lyon ideally will be moved at or before the TDL, Husso not likely to have any trade value and playing out the string, maybe replaced by Cossa late this season depending on how things look in both Detroit and GR. All three vets are vulnerable to injuries or just niggling things that get in the way and that could be what makes the decisions for SY.
Yeah, I honestly expected him to start against Ottawa, but Husso played well enough to hold the cage with the wings desperate for points, but I agree Cossa should have seen the start in Buffalo.

After the team getting the 2 points in Buffalo, I also think Cossa should get the start in Philly tomorrow before they send him back down until later in the season (I suspect at least one of Talbot/Lyon will be back by Saturday).

If the wings are well out of it by the TDL, I could see at least 2 goalies being traded out.

The offered deals will determine which one(s).

I can also see none of them being traded if SY wants GR to have a real good run at the Calder for the yutes.

If Jake is functional at all, I can see SY getting what he can for either Lyons or Husso as he could serve as an emergency NHL tender if required and be a mentor for Carter and Trey in GR.

In my personal world, I would certainly strive to bring Cossa up full time as the backup after the 2025 TDL to shake off his traditional getting up to game speed requirements and be fully ready for next season with Cam. This would mean moving Lyon at the TDL or sooner and leaving Husso in GR with Jake and Carter.

Carter and Trey in GR next year with Jake as a mentor, Husso not resigned.

Trey deciding to leave Michigan St would change things. I suspect he'll stay another year but we'll see.

Sure. It's not all on Larks. It just seems that, to me, Perron was the guy trying to step up and motivate last year. Didn't always work, of course. I know SY had a rep of not saying much in the locker room, maybe Larks is trying to follow that same model. I dunno.

All the Wings captains back to Yzerman were more "lead by example" guys. I don't think Lidstrom, Zetteberg or Yzerman were much for locker room speeches. I don't know what goes on in the locker room but what I see in games it's clear no one wants to win more than Larkin and no one expects more of themselves. Well, except maybe Raymond.

My only issue with Larkin's leadership is he needs to knock off the embellishing. He's doing it much less, but it still happens occasionally.

Yeah, I put it at 50:50 stay or go, but if he continues to show he has very little left to prove at the non-pro level...spending next season at GR would raise his depth ranking on the wings charts more than another year at Michigan State.

I think a lot rides on if Cossa is all but a lock to move up or not for the start of next season ensuring there is a good slot for Trey in GR.

If Trey were to become the 1A option by the end of the season with GR in 2025/26, he makes a strong case to be on the big club full time at some point the following season, if not the start.

Another year of college hockey may delay his potential NHL window by a year, but if the wings think Cossa needs another year in GR, then yes, college is the place for Trey to ensure lots of game action.
