GDT: Game 28 | Flyers @ Jackets | 7 PM EST

Glad to see Sillinger with a quick recovery.

I piss and moan (and will continue to do so:naughty:) about the lack of physicality (hard checks and fighting) in today's game, but shot blocking is a brutal exercise and I don't envy the modern player for having that in his job description.

I'm glad when I played (forward at high school level-nothing advanced) that blocking the puck was almost always considered the sole domain of the goalie and upon occasion a defenseman. A simple wave at a passing puck and a half-hearted attempt to block shooting lanes was deemed acceptable for forwards. Except maybe for a puck loose near your own goal-and those shots weren't hard from that distance most of the time. Amen for that:laugh:

I am not sure my memory reflects reality but I have memories as a young'un watching the Rangers and a d-man named Melnyk went down to block a shot and took a puck right to the face. Now I gotta look up if a guy named Melnyk ever played for the Rangers.

Edit: There it is...Larry Melnyk. Played for Bruins, Oilers, Rangers and Canucks between 1980-1990. Won two cups with Edmonton. Played for the Broome Dusters...what a great freaking name! Broome is a county in New York. Now I gotta see if I can find proof he was hit in the face with a puck while trying to block it.

Edit #2: No video but getting closer (but did not happen with the Rangers): Melnyk also became one of the league's best shot blockers, making him a regular on the penalty kill. He would fearlessly drop in front of a speeding bullet...shortly after arriving in Vancouver Melnyk took a Randy Carlyle slap shot to the face, giving him a concussion and fracturing his left orbital bone.

Haven’t caught a lot of flyers games this year. Just peaked at michkov’s stats, doing really well. Excited to see him in person tonight (yes I’m there. Sorry)

No, the CBJ are the main reason you are excited to watch tonight!!! Sheesh! Do I have to teach you everything?

I'm actually a Flyers fan that's been cosplaying as a CBJ fan since 2000. I'm committed to the bit.
