I think this says a lot about their unhappiness with Smith that he's being scratched while Dumba is out.

This might also be an early test to help Nill decide what he does with the Seguin LTIR cap space. Nill can evaluate what he has in Bichsel to help determine what kind of D help is needed.

This might also be an unstated fight for a roster spot. Dumba, Smith, and Lundkvist have all been healthy scratched more than once. Can Bichsel take one of their spots? We'll see.

nah, i have it on good authority from @Satan that they're just showcasing bichsel so they can move him for anything before he runs away to europe

What the hell is that Predators defense

That's a compete-for-the-1st-overall pick lineup

It's kind of funny that we're going to see our defense tonight if we'd just done nothing in the offseason (and I guess signed Lyub)

Welcome back to "Who Is that Player?"

Draw a blank no longer for today we look at that famous Predator, Nick Blankenburg.

nick-blankenburg-2024-2330.jpg

The 5 ft 9 26 year old RHD was originally signed by the Blue Jackets as a free agent out of college having attended U of M for all four seasons where he Captained a team in his senior season that included Matty Beniers, Owen Power, Kent Johnson, and Luke Hughes.

Believe it or not, he accumulated 55 NHL appearances over 3 seasons in the void known as Columbus where no information escapes.

Being extremely small isn't easy though, even more so for a defenseman, and the knock on Blankenburg quickly became injuries. With Don Waddell's arrival he swiftly cleared house of many of Jarmo's various projects.

Enter Nashville, who stepped up to sign the diminutive Dman this offseason. Through various waivings and maneuverings they have effectively managed to trade Dante Fabbro to CBJ in return, who by the way is flourishing there and achieving his long-suppressed potential. Trotz master class.

After being one of the team's final training camp cuts, Blankenburg has recently been pressed into service from Milwaukee, playing 16 and half minutes per game (!) and even over a minute per game shorthanded.

I look forward to his career-best performance tonight. I hope his parents had time to fly in after learning he would be featured in this column.

This has been, "Who Is That Player?"

Also a good time to catch up on my Dakota Mermis profile with the news today that he was claimed by Hockey Club!

Josi's the big one obviously and he drives the team's fortunes. Carrier, Lauzon, Stastney also out on D

Doesn't help that Brady Skjei has been complete garbage this year. McDonagh was an underrated big loss (I know he wanted out)

Lindell will just never leave the ice surface
When I was looking at the PK usage the other day and noticed how little PK time Dumba got, I realized the math was about to get difficult if I tried to factor in how many PK opportunities he missed due to being in the box compared to others and gave up digging deeper.
