Walman playing at a 63 point pace. +9. Good micro stats. Eye test shows he's damn good.
lol. Lmao even. Walman + 2nd for Future Considerations really has to be studied by aspiring GMs on what not to do.
Tied for 9th in dman scoring. On-ice advanced stats look insane. And as you say, he looks great out there most nights.

Watching the post game (rarely ever do) and BBC is pretty jacked for a goalie and he’s also missing his upper teeth it seems which is strange as I don’t know many modern goalies (any actually) that are also missing teeth.

We have the most GP and the teams behind us won't be bad forever (barring Chicago, who is actually terrible). This team's finishing Bottom 3 because the Defense despite Walman playing lights out is still terribad.
We’re 2-0 without Goodrow and clearly going streaking. They’re digging themselves out of the hole they started in. Come on now lol

We’re in a perfect spot as far as tanking goes. We’re good enough that we’re not totally guaranteed a top-4 pick, so there’s a silver lining to every single loss to feel good about. But we’re also bad enough that you know deep down that we’ve still pretty much got that top-4 pick in the bag, so we don’t have to feel too bad about celebrating wins.

I dunno if the sharks are bad enough to even end up bottom 10. 9-6-3 since the winless start. And a couple shootouts and one Ottawa game different and they could easily be 12-5-1. They can roll three respectable lines and they have a current bona fide #1 Dman (or at least a guy who stayed at a holiday inn last night pretending to be one).

They have a #1 goalie waiting in the wings when they trade Blackwood.

And, btw, they have the number 4 scorer in the AHL in graf who has taken real strides, as well as the #2 leading d scorer who is still 19.

I wouldn’t completely dismiss the POs. Very unlikely, but not impossible. I’d be very surprised if they end up bottom 5. I thought they might compete for a PO spot preseason, and warsofsky has gotten the max out of ‘em. Still very early, but it’s fun to watch.

All it takes is one Noah Gregor to ruin a tank and it could be that this team’s Noah Gregor is actually Goodrow being out lol

These next 5 games will go a long way towards telling us just exactly what kind of team they are this year. They somehow go 3-2 or 2-2-1 then you may have to change your thought process regarding what’s in the bag.

With Daccord getting all the spotlight to be on Team Canada for the Four Nations, Blackwood outperforming him to make his case. He really should be getting more attention to be on the team

I mean I think what kind of team they are is kind of already know commodity, entertaining and competitive team that you can’t sleep on or you’ll lose. They opposing teams work for it on most nights and that’s all you can ask for this early into a rebuild if anything they look ahead of schedule

Sure, but they seemed to have found a whole other level in terms of confidence and offensive outburst, but mostly against teams that have been… underwhelming for lack of a better word. I’m curious to see what this iteration of the team looks like against genuine contenders.

I suspect there’ll be a learning curve. I think they end up 2-3 at best and start looking more competitive as the games go on… but who knows, like you said, this team suddenly has a shocking amount of competitiveness

Oh, for sure the current results are a bit of a mirage. It happens every year, both ways. But it's fun to watch ans the effort is more apparent. I also no longer think that they are the favorite to finish last.

To be a bit of a downer, looking at the 2023 trio and seeing their struggles this year, I'm wondering if we need to account for sophomore slumps next season.

All in all, feels good to beat Seattle twice. Not much of a rivalry (yet), more like a general dislike towards them, but hopefully we'll spank them in the coming years.
