I'm not totally surprised they sent Thompson down

He's really poised and confident with the puck on his stick in transition and in the offensive zone but he's made some debilitatingly bad passes short of his target in the D zone that have resulted in turnovers in vulnerable situations and have caused the team to get hemmed in unnecessarily

He's only 22 years old, there's nothing wrong with letting him play big minutes on a really good AHL team and use this opportunity to iron out some details in his game

It's disappointing that Thompson has been sent down. He's easily been one of the top-6 defensemen on the team.

He doesn't make big of mistakes so he is not needing to skate all out to recover from said mistakes. So his effort is obviously not good enough.
