A coaching change is desperately needed but everyone seems to take the hardline that this group isn't allowed to get another coach so we're kind of stuck in limbo with this failing hockey "system".
I don't think they've run out of coaches necessarily; I just don't believe a coach is going to change who they are. They might get a bump from a new face behind the bench for a stretch but at the end of the day they are who they are. The coaches can't grab a stick and play the game for them.

I think that depends. If they were able to land a coach that will hold players accountable with benching and healthy scratches if they don't follow the system, that could be effective.

What do you look for this second period, Joe?

I'm counting the number of players on the Rangers bench, Sam, and looks like one is missing. 1-2-3... 17, 18, 19. It's Kakko.

I wonder what might be the issue, Joe?

I'm told he was left off Finland's roster for the 4 Nations Face-Off.

Oh boy. This must hurt his confidence a bit.

benching and healthy scratches are not the solve you think they are.

i think the guy who said "you can't change who they are" is right - when it comes to certain vets. the younger guys want to win and i think a proper coach would make a huge difference. potentially mostly with Laf and Miller.

And again, is Sullivan going to be some massive upgrade that will come in and start changing lines around or benching vets? Somehow, I doubt it.

No, but I do think Sullivan is a good coach for a team that isnt saddled by Kreider and Trouba. I agree though that there is no real difference between the 2. Aside from Sullivan maybe being a little less of a pushover?

Sullivan is fine I'm sure, but I could've run into a couple of Cups with Crosby. After about a week and a half I'd bet we will all have the same complaints we had before.

Other than John Tortorella, who is on track to miss the playoffs for the fourth straight year and who hasn't been truly relevant in 10-20 years, depending on how you look at it, who is the guy that's going to come in and bench people and magically instill accountability where every other head coach failed to?

I get that the idea of some hard-assed coach coming in and benching our stars when they play like shit and making everyone do bag skates until they collapse at practice and all that is attractive, because our guys are weak shitheads who need it...but who actually coaches that way anymore? I always hear it in the NFL and to a lesser extent the NBA (I don't really watch basketball), but the guys that come from college always lament the fact that you can't treat the professionals the way you treat the college kids. Most pros don't respond the same way. So, I don't know. If Torts got fired and we brought him in and he did to Zibanejad what he did to Hayes, I don't think it would really help anything. We may have deficient coaching but the biggest problem is clearly the personnel.

Anyway...LGR?
