It's the return of Alex Belzile tonight as he signed with the Rangers in the off-season. That is a guy Laval is sorely missing. I don't blame him for signing with them as they offered a 2-year deal, with the second year being a 1-way.

Tonight is the teddy bear toss. So hopefully Laval will be able to score first and get the celebration on rather than be practically shut out again. One of the highlights of the teddy bear toss is watching Bruno Gervais try to toss one from the broadcast booth trying to land it on the ice. I think he was able to do it once. Every other year, the stuffed animal landing on the people down (and they toss it on the ice afterwards).

Are JF Houle's days numbered if they pull off a stinker again tonight? They are playing one of the best teams in the league tonight. Hartford sits 3rd overall. So I can definitely see Laval struggle again.

Yeah I usually look forward to a fun Laval Friday night game. Not sure I am wasting my time with this one.

It's becoming Sylvain levels of bad now it's awful

One thing I'll give Houle the edge over Lefebvre is that the players actually develop under him. When guys come up from Laval, they usually do well in Montreal. And not just the prospects. Even vets move up and do well. Belzile and Richard last year. Even Stephens doesn't look out of place in Montreal now, even in a limited role.

The issue with Laval now isn't so much that they're losing. It's the way they're losing. Similar to the Habs under Ducharme, as soon as they get scored on, there's no real fight back. They get discouraged and continue to play shit.

Every year we overrate our prospects and expect Laval to be a powerhouse, every year we are wrong. This year is especially pathetic though, 5 wins in 21 games and dead last in the league, playoffs are already impossible
The lack of talent on Laval was never better illustrated than in the two recent road games they played against Abbotsford, which is the Canucks’ farm team, and a team that is filled with both high-end prospects and competent AHL veterans. Watching those two games would lead any impartial viewer to question whether any Laval player can be reasonably regarded as constituting a potential impactful NHL player.

I can’t believe they haven’t fired Houle. Clearly these guys should be better even with a young roster and key injuries. Not a top team, but competing for a playoff spot imo. Roy looks like a completely different player after leading the league. If Arber plays the way he played first game, he’ll never see the nhl again. Trudeau has taken a step back. The list goes on.

Which high end prospects do Vancouver have? They have few, if any, prospects in significant roles at all. Podkolzin has struggled to crack the NHL, imagine if Caufield were still in Laval. Raty is the most significant prospect there with NHL upside. They have almost nobody younger than 22, which is more indicative of a weak farm than a strong one. Laval have had 9 regulars under 22 this year for comparison to Abbotsford's 2.

Did you watch the games? If Podkolzin struggled in the NHL, then the only way most of our 'prospects will make the NHL will be to buy tickets to the game. As many , much wiser than this writer, often say: you are what your record says you are. 5 wins. Only an eternal optimist can find a silver lining among this rag tag team.

I'm saying that the age difference between the two teams is significant. Laval's average age is closer to an NCAA team than a mens league. Abbotsford on the other hand have two NHL dmen with significant experience.

Their vets are simply better than ours. Laval has some of the worst vets in the league. We signed nobody with multi-year NHL experience except Bourque who is many years removed at this point. Even Abbotsford's prospects have 3-4 years of AHL experience while we have many first year players. Look at the numbers their guys put up their first year and they're beneath guys like Roy, Farrell or Mailloux.

We've thrust galipeau into a huge role after call ups on D when he's been in the ECHL for the past four years while abbotsford have Matt Irwin and his near 500 NHL games experience. We re-signed Beaudin who has struggled playing d in the AHL for four years. There's no way they thought he was an NHL call up option at 24.

Our pro scouting still sucks. We needed good vets instead of more vets.
