His creativity is so underrated

Creativity and tenacity. Dude does not give up on plays and will steal the puck/win battles against guys who have 40 pounds on him. He’s such a tenacious skilled player, it’s a real delight to watch him. I really want the Sharks to keep the guy.

I almost included Wennberg on that list too, he's just really solid. Really something we needed.

Yeah, really responsible, works hard every shift and then periodically has a play like his end to end OT winner. Those guys are so essential to a team.

Those are the kinds of plays that make me think Eklund could drive his own line someday

I think Eklund could carve out a Granlund-at-his-best kind of career. What I like about William is he is like a little robot, he seems to continuously be growing as a player and working on his deficiencies.

I agree and would like to see Eklund being the LW for Smith in the future really solidifying that line.
Celebrini is probably going to get one of Musty or Cherny there if they hit.
I would like to see Eklund being the C for Smith. Bring back the Eklund at center experiment!!! He's got the tenacity and IQ for it.

It's so awesome to watch actually good veterans like Toffoli, Granlund, and Walman instead of Zadina, Hoffman, and Burroughs. Obviously the kids are the most important parts of the franchise but our vets this year are genuinely fun players and people.
Sheng and I were joking about this on the pod this week. If you counted up the amount of games that the Sharks gave to guys last year that are no longer on NHL rosters it is impressive. It's especially impressive when you look at the current roster and pretty much Kostin/G. Smith/Rutta are the only ones in danger of not having jobs in the NHL next year, and they still might.

Last year:
Zadina 73 games
Hoffman 66 games
Bailey 59 games
Barabanov 46 games
Carpenter 62 games
Macdonald 34 games
Okhotyuk 43 games
Benning 14 games
Knyzhov 10 games
Studnicka 17 games

424 games

Didn't include any of the young guys like Peterson, Graf, Gush, Bords

I think smith sticks for a few more years, he is a face puncher (or maybe a face punchee) that isn't actually a liability when given time on the ice.

Truly, Grier set out to build the single worst NHL roster in NHL history and he really, really succeeded.

I'd like to know which of that group are the one's that Sheng considered offensive players. In a previous podcast he talked about the Sharks stacking the lineup last year with offensive players.

More precisely, he characterizes them as "offensive players who don't score". Zadina, Barabanov, Hoffman, Duclair, Addison, Labanc. Even early-season Granlund could have qualified there.
