In soccer they don't give out championship rings, so the medals replace them.

Bergeron was a monster at the dot (67%), proving once again why he's the best face-off man in the league.

I just don't like the overly long trophy presentations at all. The worst offender being the IIHF World Championship with a trophy, medals and like a dozen individual awards. It's anticlimactic.

I think one MVP award and trophy or medals is the way to go.

Bruins get all 3 goals

Did Stamkos look out of place in this tournament to anyone else?

I attended several games, and he just did look out of place and off. Not sure what the deal he is. He missed a lot of opportunities that he normally buries. The Crosby-Bergeron-Marchand line was unbelievable. Disappointed in some of the other lines.

For 2018- if the NHL goes to the Olympics, i want Hockey Canada to bring in guys like Letang and Subban on the back line, and go with guys like Taylor Hall up front, who are fast skaters. I thought the defense needed more mobility, and some of the forwards did not produce like i had hoped. Cannot be complacent with the same group in 2018.

Keep in mind they were missing Seguin and Benn.

Yup. The results are too obvious. And thats before considering deployment, where Toews is always facing the one hyperelite (kopitar etc) line on the other team. Simply too obvious to debate.

This is just unbelievable. Youre talking about Toews?

The only thing anyone should ask themselves is if there is another center in the world that could have performed better than Kopitar did tonight, with the kind of support that he had, and against such an opposition?

In my opinion, no one other than maybe Crosby or future McDavid, in terms of modern players.

Never in the world will Toews be able to carry a whole forward squad on his shoulders the way Kopitar just did.

I still cant believe youre here praising Toews...some players just never get the credit they deserve

I've always thought the soccer world cup looks awful. It looks membrane-y and gross. Like an alien egg sac or something.

almost as massive as the difference between their respective Dzone and Ozone starts.

Toews Dzone starts in the NHL regular season arent nearly as lopsided as they are in best-on-best play.

Toews is one of the best players in the world, certainly one of the best 2-way centers, but Crosby is pretty clearly a step above everybody save perhaps McDavid.

Oh I forgot, starting more in the defensive zone counts for phantom points now. Toews wins because of phantom points and intangibles (which that argument is even weaker now that Crosby has 2 cups), right?

I really wish everyone would just have opinions like these. Toews is an elite player. Crosby's the best player in the game. Crosby isn't on the same level as past greats. Just leave it at that and call it a day

If Toews was as good at scoring as Crosby he'd be getting more offensive zone starts.

But he's not that good offensively. At least not tangibly.

Stupid tournament got a stupid ending. This was worse than a blowout would have been. Hope never to get to see any of those gimmick teams again. Let Canada play against Canada in the next Gimmick Cup 2020 for all I care, but don't give us this **** ever again.

What? His line murdered the Kopitar line in possession despite being buried in Dzone starts. They were excellent all night.

Ridiculous

Kopitar is out there with linemates that cant hold none of the Canadian forwards' jock. Kopitar nevertheless neutralized any line he played against.

Raw point production is less important than impact on goal differential.

Crosby has strong impact on goal differential through point production, true, but macimizing goal differential by neutralizing the opponents most potent offensive weapons and simultaneously chipping in strong-but-not-elite point production is equally valid.

Looked like he lost his balance and fell on Perry. Still a penalty but wasn't intentional.

He had his arm wrapped around him. That's a penalty. If losing his balance meant that he couldn't unwrap his arm, then that's a good reason not to wrap his arm around him in the first place.

you forgot the :sarcasm: guy

Sorry. I'll try again...

Well, since the southern hemisphere wasn't represented, maybe it should be just half of a globe :sarcasm:

"Everybody thought we'd be the laughing joke of the tournament." - Anze Kopitar #WCH2016*

I can't imagine what it must have felt like being labeled as losers before the tournament. The biggest losers were the Americans....complete joke

Keep in mind they were missing Seguin and Benn.

True. I also thought Jeff Carter could have made an impact as well. That is correct, but i was hoping to see more from the other lines besides the Crosby one. The defense could have been more mobile. Letang and Subban should be seriously considered for 2018. No disrespect to some of the guys there.

That's true, all that matters is whether you're outscoring the other team at the end of the day. However, on that same point, defending is a 5 man job and usually scoring isn't a 5 man job. Defense is a collective effort, scoring is less of a collective effort. That's why I don't think 1 goal scored equals 1 goal prevented, because there are more people preventing goals on the ice for your team than they are scoring them most of the time.

Didn't you know that Toews would strip the puck from Mario and Wayne just as easily as he does from everyone else? He's clearly one of the best to have ever played the game.
