If they play like they did on Monday, I think the Jackets get a nice W tonight. Lots of opportunities, but Colorado got some great goaltending. Probably going to be a sparse crowd, so Jackets need to manufacture their own energy.

Agreed on the play... as for the crowd, I'm interested what it will be. I'm still going but, I'll probably always go as its hard to sell a single seat as a STH. :D

Incredibly important that we get 2 points tonight considering ~80% of teams in playoff spots at the thanksgiving mark make the postseason.

Agreed.

Still not convinced there is such a thing for this team... yet.

Am not convinced there is such a thing for ANY team. A crazy hot goalie can steal a win from you no matte how good you play.
Just win the next game, whomever, wherever.

If a team goes 8-1-1 (as CBJ just did prior to Monday night), ride the wave as long as you can - back it up with another good/great 10 game stretch. Two streaks of 8-1-1 puts arrives at 96 points if the remainder of the year is .500 hockey. Not saying 96 is good enough this year (or any year) but if that is the starting point, just build from there.

If you lose 3 or 4 or in a row, the key is to simply win the next game. Not a game that you "should" win - just win the next game, regardless of whether it's against Carolina, Arizona, Chicago or Pittsburgh.

A poster in a different thread suggested the need for a stat about momentum in a game, but how hard that would be to objectively measure. IMO, that momentum thing is just as important from game-to-game. Winning begets winning, not just because of better skill, effort, etc...but because you BELIEVE. Case in point, Cam's goal Monday night. You can chalk it up to just luck, but there was a look/feel about CBJ for the last 7 minutes that they were coming and coming hard.

I've never experienced or observed a sport that seems as affected as much by momentum/belief than hockey - both within a game and from game to game.

CBJ 4-0.

This is going to be fun!

Calgary fan here..

There really is something to this, and it is (imo) impossible to measure, but it is there.

2 years ago, the Flames made all those third period comebacks. Down by two goals with less than 2 minutes to play? You could feel the comeback would happen, and it did. How? Why? It was simply a fun season for fans that year.

This year? 2 minutes, down by 1? We all know it will end down by 2. Every bit of that magic is gone it seems.

2 years ago, there was confidence and swagger. These days, there is confusion, and everyone holding their sticks tight.

Will be interesting to see the game 5on5 - Flames have been pretty decent at it. Special teams are absolutely destroying this team. Definitely works in favor for the Blue Jackets, that's for sure. Doesn't help that this team is still adjusting from 'blocking shots' to a more aggressive defensive system in which they try to take the puck away - is leading to a lot of penalties, though some of them have been pure undisciplined penalties.

Hopefully Columbus takes them lightly? If not, I would anticipate a loss for the Flames. It will be a blowout if it becomes a special teams contest, that's for sure.

Good luck to you guys (though you don't need it). I guess one way to figure out how to fix the PK is by having the league's best PP attack it and exploit weakness after weakness, right? haha

In years past, we've been an absolute gong show in games vs the Flames at home and games right before a holiday. Let's exorcise those two demons!

In the arena now, "crowd" outside before the game pretty sparse; concourse inside same.

Remind me again that this last draft, where we took Pld over Jesse, and now seeing that Tkachuk has 5 goals and 4 assist in 17 games , was the right move . Totally was oblivious to what Tkachuk had done this season .

Imagine if we took Tkachuk, sent him back to juniors, and Vancouver/Calgary took PLD and he made the team out of camp. You'd be saying the same thing about how we picked the wrong guy
