(On what will be key in the performance against Calgary) … "I think it’s just in our preparation, playing back to back, getting what you need this morning and getting ready to go. I think it’s our first opportunity to get above .500. That’s a big thing for us, especially considering we’ve played 11 out of 15 games on the road.” (On the importance of getting on a roll with so many home games in the future) … “I think just the consistency factor in our game – we’ve had a few good games in a row, followed up by a bad game. We’ve got to just get that consistency. Once we have that consistency and we start playing to our capabilities, I think that’s when you start to see the wins pile up.” (On whether so few home games presents a challenge) … “I think it’s pretty normal for us. Even in a normal season in February, we play a lot on the road because of the Grammy’s and just how the scheduling works with Staples. So I think any guy who plays in L.A. for the last few years understands that it’s kind of a normal thing for us this time of year. It probably feels a little different considering the shortened season, but we need to be prepared and ready to take advantage of being at home.” (On whether there’s a sense of panic in the shortened season, or confidence that they’ve been in a similar position before) … “I don’t think it’s a panic. Like you said, we’ve all been in the situation in years past and battled to get where we need to be. There’s definitely a sense of urgency and a sense of attention to detail to get the job done.” (Given the back-to-back, on whether they’re aware of and have seen video of Calgary’s tendencies) … “I mean, with the addition of Wideman, I think he’s pretty well known around the league as a pretty good offensive defenseman. Giordano, Bouwmeester and all of them really can skate pretty well. It’s important for us to just play our game. We’re a grinding, physical team and when you start banging their back end, it makes it more difficult for them to jump in. We have to be aware of those guys and finish our checks on them.” (On the luxury of throwing a goalie of Bernier’s caliber in to give Quick a rest) … “I mean, that’s the beauty of having two good goalies, especially in scenarios like this when you’re playing back to back. Bernier’s played well for us when he’s gotten the opportunity this year. Even going back to last year, he hasn’t had a lot of opportunity, but he’s always seemed to come in and play well."

"I think we played a pretty solid road game tonight ... We gotta keep this going and get in the playoff hunt."

(On the importance of getting two points) … “Every game is important. Every time. It’s so tight that every time you win a game, you jump a spot up. When you lose a game, you drop a spot. We’ve got to keep the momentum.” (On getting into a rhythm with several key saves early in the first period) … “They seem to do that pretty well here. They always have strong starts. You kind of expect that and you prepare yourself for that. I was lucky to make a couple saves and keep it zero-zero, and we ended up playing them much better after that.” (On whether there was a change of trajectory on the one goal he allowed) … “Yeah, I guess it looked like he was shooting glove, and I think it might have hit something, but what are you going to do?” (On Edmonton’s speed) … “Yeah, they’ve got a lot of guys that can skate. It’s fast ice, too. We’ve seen them a few times. We know they’ve got a lot of speed. They like to open it up. They’ve got a lot of guys that are very talented with the puck. I think we did a good job of shutting that down and making them play on the wall. We outplayed them on the wall tonight.”

(On Trevor Lewis’ assertiveness) … “To assess him, he’s assertive every night. You say that, because he’s on the scoresheet, right, and you want him to score. He’s one of my favorites, so I want him to produce.” (On evaluating the team’s consistency) … “It’s just shift to shift, period to period, game to game…We’re playing three defensemen that haven’t played in the NHL, so consistency is what all young players strive for and what coaches strive for them to accomplish or get to.” (On whether there’s any truth to the “Stanley Cup hangover”) … “Well, I know what a hangover is, and I didn’t have one. What does that mean? The hangover for us was a lot of injured players, and guys are still injured. That’s what it is. So we’re a different team, and I don’t think there was anything that held us back other than the injuries here.” (On if there’s a difference between the way the team played in the playoffs and right now) … “No, actually we’re playing the same. We just have a different team. We don’t have the same experience on the back end…We didn’t change our style, our system, or any of that.”

Yes, really.

They even delayed the NHL broadcast as the women's curling match was still going. It was tied until the last rock, I was worried it was going to be in extra ends and delayed further. Normally, TSN2 would carry the beginning and switch to TSN when the game started, but of course St. Louis/Colorado is on TSN2 right now too.

It amazes me how much the Scotties Tournament of Hearts (I swear that is the curling tournament's name) and the Tim Hortons Brier (the men's equivalent, which is kicking the Oilers out of Rexall for 2 weeks in March) get as far as coverage. I guess it is the only event where your neighbor really could be playing in it. Team Saskatchewan features the daughter of the people I buy my lunch from (and I think it is Caps goalie Braden Holtby's sister).
