Great season for the young man. He's going up against Huberdeau and Saad. Really surprising that Brodin and Yakupov are not there. Good luck to him, he really helped change the way this team plays.

Montreal Canadiens winger Brendan Gallagher, center Jonathan Huberdeau of the Florida Panthers and left wing Brandon Saad of the Chicago Blackhawks are the 2012-13 finalists for the Calder Memorial Trophy, the NHL announced Monday.

Gallagher, who is celebrating his 21st birthday Monday, had 15 goals and 13 assists in 44 regular-season games for the Canadiens. A fifth-round pick (No. 147) at the 2010 NHL Draft, Gallagher has two goals in the first three games of Montreal's first-round series against the Ottawa Senators in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Huberdeau, the No. 3 pick in 2011, finished second on the Panthers in scoring with 31 points (14 goals, 17 assists) in 48 contests. Huberdeau tied for first in rookie scoring with Edmonton Oilers winger Nail Yakupov, who was the No. 1 pick in 2012.

Saad, 20, tallied 27 points (10 goals, 17 assists) in 46 games for Chicago. A second-round pick (No. 43) in 2011, Saad began the 2012-13 campaign with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League, where he went 8-12-20 in 31 contests.

All of this season's award winners will be announced during the 2013 Stanley Cup Final, with more detail on format to be released at a later date.

Too small for the NHL.

Also not fast enough, since he's too small.

I fully expect him to win. Good ol' boy from western Canada. The voters love that and that should give him an edge.

It would be deserved, but the race is so even this year that I think other factors than performance will come in play.

Also, I think Yakupov should have been nominated over Saad.

Its not against Gally. Its the Oiler fans and Wild fans. Brodin and Yak not on the list

the Oilers fans should probably look at their organisation first, they had the last 3 first overall pick, 3. first. overall. pick. none of them won the calder and the oilers are still a horrible team...

Gallagher has been my favorite prospect before the beginning of the season. Went from being a 5th round pick, to having 3 back to back 40+goals season in the WHL, to be named captain of the Vancouver Giants, to be represting for Team Canada at the under-20. To breaking the all-time points record of the Giants. To being called up by the club at the age of 20 as a former 5th round pick. Deserved every single bit.

i like gallagher and what he brings for his size but I think huberdeau
will win it. Huberdeau could have played this year in junior and he
is on arguabely one of the worst teams in the league with little or no support
and he was by far most nights their best player.

Hope he wins the Calder.

Gallagher is showing Captain of the Canadiens type stuff this year. Either after Gionta, since Gorges has faded a bit the last couple years IMO, or after Gorges. Gallagher will wear an A as soon as next year.
