I could understand the hesitancy of signing Vilardi to a longer term contract given his injury history. This is the first year he hasn't been injured in forever. This year may be the exception for him. He almost certainly won't sign a bridge contract which is what his current contract is at two-years. He and his agent know there would be some teams out there looking to give him more term.
Perhaps a medium length contract would be suitable for both sides? 4 years. He would be a free agent at age 29 and would be in line for a significant raise from the Jets or someone else if he can stay relatively healthy and produce similar numbers...plus the huge increase in the salary cap by the late 2020s.
